Taylor stared into Kelsey’s eyes. Suddenly he saw something replace all the fear. He couldn’t read it, so he wasn’t sure as to what it was. He saw her clench her teeth and fists tightly. She said through her tightly clenched teeth, “Let go of me.” At this, Marv laughed.
‘He’s laughing!’ Kelsey’s thought, outraged. His laughter stung more than she thought the knife would. She could feel the anger rising in her. What was she, some kind of puppet he could control? Someone who didn’t have a mind and didn’t have anything better to do than be his? Yeah, right.
Marv managed to control his laughter long enough to tell Kelsey to walk with him. When Taylor started to move, Marv moved his head slightly and glared at him, “Don’t you dare move, pretty boy.” Kelsey felt those words drumming through her head. He was now insulting her boyfriend also. ‘AND THE JERK THINKS HE GOING TO GET AWAY WITH IT???’ Kelsey screamed in her mind. She could feel the rage shooting through her body and it had to come out somewhere. It exploded through her fingertips as she grabbed the knife from Marv’s grip and flung it as hard as she could (and considering her six years in softball, that was pretty hard) into the woods.
Marv turned, shocked at what happened. But the shock soon turned to anger. “What in God’s name do you think you’re doing?” he yelled at her. Kelsey could feel herself churning inside but matched his glare with an ice-cold one of her own, “Getting my life back.”
Marv lunged at her, fists first. He landed on top of her and Kelsey was on the ground, while Marv mercilly beat her. Kelsey’s reaction was quick. She sheilded her head from the blows while screaming bloody murder (which was understandable, to say the least.) She felt blow after blow meet her body as pain shot through her. Then suddenly she felt Marv’s weight leave her.
Kelsey turned and saw through her tears of pain Taylor and Marv wrestling. She tried to sit up to help, but she felt as though somebody were pounding her head against a wall. She blurrily saw Taylor pounding his fists into Marv and Marv hitting back. She saw them begin to roll towards her when she suddenly felt both of their bodies smash her into the hard rock behind her. Then everything went black.
