Chapter 3-Ex-Boyfriends and Starry Nights

Soon you turn into a driveway that leads up to a brown trimmed house with brown garage doors and a planter with a low brick wall surrounding it. There was grass on either side of the cement path leading up to a front door. Your front door. Your house. Your mom pulls the car into the garage. You walk by the washer and dryer and Zac says, "Whoa, you got a quad!" "Yeah," you say. You lead them inside the house and you hear, "Hey Bryan, Kristin thinks she knows Hanson!" Your little brother, Matt was explaining to your other little brother Bryan (the sick one). "Bryan comes into the Kitchen, laughing at you and pointing his finger. Then, he sees Hanson standing with you and drops his finger, along with his jaw. He runs out of the room.

"Follow me," you tell them. They follow you up the hallway to your brother’s room. You pushed their door open. It took you and Zac to push it open because their room was such a mess. "Hey Matt," you say to your brother who was playing playstation. "What did you say about I think I know Hanson." "Yeah," he says turning around, "Oh." "Cool, Playstation," Zac says at the same time Isaac says, "Cool, N64." "Trust me," you say, "You don’t want to know my little brothers." They follow you into your room. "AAAHHHHHHHHH!" Zac drops to his knees and grabs his hair. "Mirrors everywhere!" You fall onto your bed laughing. Zac goes around your room copying himself in every one of your posters. "This is weird," Taylor says. "Yeah, I know, seeing yourself everywhere," Isaac agrees. "Why don’t I just turn out the light," you say, pulling the chain from your ceiling fan. You make your way over to your black light and turn it on. "Woah!" Taylor exclaims as his clothes light up. Then you turn on your Fiber Optic lamp (if you really want to know what that is, email me and ill tell you Hansn13grl@aol.com) They were all in awe over this.

You hear your brothers announce that they are going to Kyle and Kevin’s to spend the night. "You can go play video games if you want now," you tell Isaac and Zac. They run into your brother’s room but Taylor stays put in your inflatable chair. "Aren’t you going to go?" you ask him "Nah, I’d never get a turn, some other time," he says. "Ahh it’s hot in here," you say, "Wanna go out front?" "Sure," he says. You pull him to his feet and put your head inside Matt and Bryan’s room to tell Isaac and Zac that you’re going out front. "K," Zac says not taking his eyes off the TV screen. You turn the porch light on and head out front.

You sit down cross-legged on the grass, facing each other and he asks you, "So what do you think of our music?" "Well first I liked it because I liked the beat of the music and I thought your were cute…" Taylor blushes. "…and then I started thinking about the lyrics and I fell in love with the music. I admire your courage for starting so young. Not too many bands could take that pressure. Taylor smiled. Man she’s amazing. She really understands what we’re going for, Taylor thought to himself. "Thank you, I’m glad that we have a fan that actually understands. "No prob bob," you say.

You hear a skateboard stop right in front of your house. You look over at Kurt, your ex-boyfriend. You try to act surprised to see him even though you are really pissed at him for spreading rumors about you and the fact that he totally blows you off when he’s near his friends. "Kurt!" you call, running over to him. He gives you a hug and puts his arm around you. "How are you?" he asks. "Fine," you answer and notice that Taylor is coming over to you. "Taylor this is Kurt, Kurt this is Taylor Hanson." "Whoa! Hey." "Hi," Taylor says, looking at the sky. "So where are you going?" you ask him. "Jeremy’s." "Big surprise, I’m amazed that his parents haven’t adopted you yet. Well bye." "Later, he says, skating off.

"Your boyfriend’s pretty cool," Taylor says. "Ex-boyfriend, you mean." "Oh," Taylor says, a hint of relief in his voice. "I am so pissed at him," you say. "Wanna talk about it?" he asks. "Sure," you say, lying down on the grass. "OK," he says, lying down beside you, "Talk." "Well we were best friends, even after we broke up and now when I go to his bus stop he doesn’t say hi to me and I had to jump on his back before he even acknowledged my presence and he started spreading rumors that I beg him to go out with me. That is so not true." "What a jerk." "You’re tellin’ me!" You stare up at the sky and prop yourself up on your elbows and look over at Taylor. "You ever just like to look up at the sky?" "Yeah, a lot actually," he answers. You look up at the sky and he says, "Look, there's the big dipper and the little dipper, weird." You stand up and look up. "Where?" you ask. He puts his hands on yours and folds down your thumb and last three fingers, so only your pointer finger was up. He lifts up your arm and traces the constellations in the sky. "Oh," you say breathlessly. You were trembling from his touch. He put your arm down and left his hand on yours. You let him stay there.

She isn’t pulling away he thinks to himself, maybe that’s a good sign. Just then Isaac comes out the front door and Taylor jumps away. You look at him weird. Smooth one, he thinks. "Hey Kristin, one of the people from Mercury Records called my mom and she has to go to LA so she talked to your mom and she said we could stay here for the night." "OK," you tell him. He goes back inside and you stay there by Taylor. He is looking at the ground sheepishly. "What’s wrong?" you ask him. "I feel so stupid," he says. "Why?" "It’s nothing, I don’t wanna talk about it." "K." You stare up at the stars again. "Do you believe in fate?" he asks you. "Maybe. I believe that two people can be made for each other," you answer him. "Oh."

LATER THAT NIGHT

Taylor is laying on the floor in your brother’s room in a sleeping bag. He can’t sleep. He starts thinking. I don’t know what, but something is driving me crazy. Gosh I like her a lot. I probable don’t have a chance after making a complete fool out of myself out there. But then again she did say I was cute. No she said at first she thought I was cute. It doesn’t mean she still does. She didn’t push my hand away, what was that? This is going to drive me nuts. I have to talk to her. With that he got up and opened your door. He stepped inside, shut it, and whispered loudly, "Kristin?" "Yeah?" "Were you awake?" "Yeah just thinking." "Me too, I need to talk to you." You sit up and pat the spot on your bed next to you, motioning for him to sit down. He did and you could see each other from the moonlight that has flooded into your room.
