Possession II: Claire's Revenge

Chapter 12

Do I Look Like A Speed Bump?

"She's dead."

Taylor's heart felt as if it had physically broke into a million peices at the very words. He hated to see his brother cry. And he could tell, just by the way that he looked at her, Zac had been in love. True, he hadn't really liked the girl, but the grief that his brother would have over his death was enough. Within seconds his body had gone numb and he tried to choke back tears.

Claire gave another laugh. "Dead."

I can't believe she had to die because of me....

The saddness turned to anger, and Taylor turned to face Claire, his face portraying pure hatrid. She noticed his expression and scowled deeply.

"Taylor, you're not making this easy on me." She said, shaking a finger at him. She still held the knife at his throat.

With a cry, and shoved her away and struggled to get the knife away from her. Claire screamed and a wild look appeared in her dark eyes. She angrily thrashed the knife around, trying to cut at least part of him.

She lashed out and sliced him across the shoulder, and his blood flew across her own cheek. Taylor yelled out in pain and tightly held his shoulder. Claire turned the knife in her hands, then held it at arms length teasingly.

"I'm going to let you suffer! Just like you made ME suffer!! You'll never have any enjoyment in life again!" She screamed.

Taylor snarled at her and lunged to grab the knife. He managed to take it from her grasp, and throw it across the room. She angrily threw herself at him, clawing the best she could with her nails at his face. He pushed her off and punched her in the jaw so hard that her head snapped back.

Claire sank to her knees, rubbing her sore jaw, then grabbed Taylor's leg and pulled him down beside her. With a smoove manuver, she sat on his chest and held her hands at his throat. He struggled, but she was too strong, and the pain in his shoulder was begining to take effect. Claire's face started to blur before him and her achingly frightening voice was slowing.

"It's gonna be different this time Taylor! There's no one to save you now!" She yelled, her eyes flashing wildly. "I'm going to finish what I started, and this time you ARE going to die!!"

With a desperate hand, and fumbled for the knife that lay just out of reach. Claire pushed harder on his kneck, cutting off all air supply to his lungs and he gasped for a breath, stertching his arm out for the knife.

"It's all over this time Taylor! All over!" She cried.

Cool metal touched his fingers, and he grasped the knife so hard his fingers began to bleed. With a harsh swipe, he sliced at her left cheek. She released his neck and fell to the ground, letting out a bloodcurdling scream, then made a small gasp, breathing unevenly. With a great effort, she managed to sit up, holding her bleeding face painfully.

For a moment, she was completely silent, then turned at him with a look so full of malice that it was tangible. The blood from the cut slowly dripped down her cheek, soaking half of her cheek in darkness as she narrowed her black eyes at him.

He held the knife stifly in his hands, and pushed himself up off the ground. She stood as well, facing him with her small hands clenched tightly into fists.

"You do not have the right to control my destiny!" Taylor cried angrily. "I'm not afraid of you anymore Claire! You're nothing to me and never have been!"

Claire's angry face became stricken with sadness and her chin began to quiver slightly. She unclenched her fists and held onto her stomach as if she were in physical pain.

"You're an evil, twisted, sick, little psychopath!!" He continued, waving the knife around. "I DON'T LOVE YOU! I NEVER DID AND I NEVER WILL!!"

Claire began to sob, falling to the floor in pain. Her dark hair fell into her bloody face and her shoulders shook heavily. Her hands flew up to her ears and covered them to block out Taylor's ranting. After a minute, she looked up at him, seeing his beautiful face and realized how much he had hurt her all these years.

She spoke so softly that he didn't hear her at first. "You do love me. And you will ALWAYS love me."

Without warning, she flung herself at him, grabbing for the knife. He closed his eyes and dove to the ground, avoiding her.

A loud bang rang out through the room, and his eyes snapped open to see where the sound had come from.

Sara stood in the doorway, holding a gun and glaring at Claire, who had slumped to the floor below him. She looked like she had been beaten up or something, bleeding and limping dramactically through the doorway.

Claire gaped at the girl, opening and closing her mouth silently. She wearily lifted a hand and pointed at Zac's girlfriend, her eyes narrowing to slits.

Sara lowered the gun and stared at her. "That's right you psycho. I'm the girlfriend. Remember? The one you ran over with the car?! Do I LOOK like a speed bump?!"

Chapter 13

Ladies First

Taylor didn't even hear their conversation, he was so thrilled that she was alive and that she had saved him that he couldn't even think straight. Of course, the relief and excitement that he felt would be nothing compared to Zac's when he saw her. Happiness at the sight of her almost brought him to tears, and he stepped over Claire to embrace her.

"I...I'm sorry...." He began, hugging her tightly.

Sara pulled back and smiled softly at him. "I know. But I understand now. How could I possible die on you and Zac?"

He smiled hesitantly. "Thank you."

A groan from the other side of the room called for their attention. They turned to see Claire slumped on the floor, reaching out for Taylor with tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Please.....Taylor....." She croaked, trying to stand.

Taylor took the gun from Sara's hands and walked towards her. Claire tried to smile and reached out for his hand. Her eyes were a true wonder, never giving away anything more than she wanted them to. She never had anything in her dark eyes but pure insanity and malice. Claire Hatchett was a lunatic, someone who could never be trusted, never be loved, and never love anyone. Though she had told Taylor she loved him so many times that the words began to make him sick, he knew that someone like her was never capable of loving.

"Tay...lor, I want....I want to tell you something....." She said while hiding a smile. He tried to read her eyes, but again found nothing but insanity. There was no reasoning with her, and although she had a right to live, Taylor really didn't feel like giving her that right.

"What Claire? Another devotion of your sick twisted love? A plead for help?" He asked, bending down and narrowing his eyes.

She coughed, spilling blood onto the floor, then snarled angrily at him. "N...no. I was going to say: Go to hell."

He held the gun to her head and fired one shot. Claire's black eyes rolled back into her head and she fell motionless to the floor, her dark hair spilling over her face. The evil was gone and she would no longer haunt his dreams or his life. She was dead. Actually dead; and for the first time in years, he felt something that resembled complete happiness. He had regained his sanity, and a little pride along the way. No one was going to hold him down from now on. As if someone had lifted her spirit from his heart, he felt lighter as he straightened up and looked at Claire's body.

The room remained silent, the gun shot seeming to echo in the room and in Taylor's ears for an eternity. Taylor stared at Claire for a long time, into her lifeless wide open eyes, then threw the gun onto the floor beside her and spoke in a cold voice.

"Ladies first."

Glasses clinked cheerfully together, mixing in with the laughter and chatter in the room. Family and friends had gathered from all over to witness the event, and the room was filled to the brim.

Taylor smiled as he headed towards his brothers, both of them with their arms around their loves. For a moment, he regretted that he had no one to put his arms around, then remembered that relashionships were just to complicated for him. People all around him turned and smiled as they saw him walk by. No longer were there any condensending, pity smiles, but true, happy to see you grins.

"Congratulations." He said to the four of them, taking care to smile especially at Zac's fiancee Sara Parker, who also smiled back.

"Thank you." All four of them said in reply. He had never seen his brothers look more radiant and excited, and hoped for nothing but the best. The party was an engagement/baby shower for the two couples. Zac had proposed to Sara a week ago, and Isaac and Monica announced that she was pregnant on the same day.

"So, what are you going to name him?" He inquired about the baby. He was thinking about something along the lines of....Taylor....

"Her." Monica corrected. "And we haven't decided yet. Maybe Nicole."

"I was thinking Cindy. After my first love." Isaac joked about Cindy Crawford, and Monica elbowed him sharply in the ribs.

"What about Jane?" Zac asked.

"Katherine?" Sara offered.

They looked at Taylor, silently asking his opinion. He gave a sideways grin and shook his head at their suggestions. "Claire."

The four of them cracked up, and Isaac put a gentle hand on Taylor's shoulder and put on a serious face. "Not on your life, kid."

The End.
