Chapter 4: “Hey!” I heard Laura cry in the back of my mind. I could barely hear any more. My brain was shutting down. I could see myself inside and out at the same time. I was watching myself die. Literally. I saw the flow of blood to my brain lessen. I felt my heart closing. I looked up with what I had left to see with. I saw a bundle of fur. It was my dog. Oh, yeah. I thought. He’s fuzzy... that was my last thought as I swirled down into a deep blackness. A blackness I had never felt before. I was dead. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHOOOOOSH!!!! The flow of cold water rushing over my face awoke me. I jumped up, straight as a pin. I was surprised. It was freezing cold water! “YIKE-MA-ZOWIE!” I screamed. I have no idea where that came from. Really, I don’t. It just came right out. In that tone that Mom uses when she shops and punishes. “Yes, I’ll have two pounds of ham, a quarter-pound of chopped meat, a Big-Mac and no TV for a week.” Then I remembered what had happened. “B-b-b-ut,” I stammered, “h-h-h-how?!” I finally blurted it out. I jumped up to look at myself. I was whole. I was real. I was relieved. I WASN’T DEAD!!!!!! But how? Laura looked at me. Him, she mouthed, and jerked her head toward Rob. Who was dancing to a song I just so happened to like. You just walk in, I make you smile, it’s cool but you don’t even know me. You take an inch, I run a mile, can’t b’l’eve your always right behind me... I zapped the boombox lying on the floor. TZZZAAAPPP! It exploded into sparks and a few spasms of fire balls. I swear, I don’t know how I did it. I just had an urge to shut the damned thing off and point my finger. The next minute, TZZZAAAPPP! It exploded. And we weren’t in the room anymore.
