HIROGEN
The Hirogen are an extremely aggressive race from the Delta Quadrant. They
can reach the height of over 9 feet and are easily identified by their body
armor. The entire Hirogen culture is based on "The Hunt". The Hirogen prey on
weaker (and sometimes even more powerful) life forms and
usually eat their victims or practice some sort of crude taxidermy on them.
The Hirogen owned a subspace array spanning from the Delta to Gamma Quadrant.
This array was powered by small quantum singularities (black holes) till it
was later overloaded by Voyager. One Alpha-Hirogen was worried that the
"Hunt" would lead to the its species own extinction and felt that if Voyager's
holographic technology could be harnessed, the entire ship could be used
as a holo-hunting ground. His original intentions failed after he was killed,
but the Voyager crew was able to trade holographic technology in exchange for
the Hirogens' absence aboard their ship.
