Curve Lake Tournament - Curve Lake, Ontario - June 26, 27 and 28

Rutherflo 5 vs Curve Lake 1 - Friday June 26 - 9:45pm - Rutherflo got on the board first in the 2nd inning. Tommy Jopling had a double, then Evan Loucks drove him in with a single. In the 4th inning Greg Newell, who is playing his first game for Rutherflo this year, hit a solo homerun to left center field. In the 5th inning it all started when Rob Doncaster had a single. Pat Rutherford replaces him for more speed on the base paths. Bill Shannon gets an infield hit on a error by the Curve Lake third baseman which moves Pat to second. Next up Dave Waldie ripped a single which drove in Pat Rutherford from second and moved Shannon to third. Then Waldie steals second. Next up Steve Connelly walks to load the bases. Craig Minifie comes up and hits a double which drives in two more runs. In the 7th inning Curve Lake got on the board when a triple drove in a run. Notes: Randy Fife went 7 complete innings stacking up 8 strikeouts and only gave up 4 hits. Game took 1 hour and 22 minutes to complete.

Rutherflo 4 vs Bradford Sox 1 - Saturday June 27 - 12:30pm - Rutherflo started the scoring in the third inning when Bill Shannon hit a triple into the right field corner. Dave Waldie drove Bill in when he nailed a ball back to the pitcher which he couldn't handle. In the 4th inning, Greg Newell hit another solo homerun his second in two games so far. During the 5th inning Bill Shannon bunted his way onto first. Then Byron Baraieski came upto the plate and hit a two run homerun to left field. Notes: Bradford scored 1 run in the 5th inning but thats all they could muster against a solid pitching performance from Byron Baraieski. Greg Newell was named player of the game.

Rutherflo 3 vs Pickering Heat 2 - Sunday June 28 - 9:00am - Jeff Murphy got the start while Byron Baraieski pitched the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. Chris Burkholder hit the first of three solo homeruns for Rutherflo in this game. Greg Newell with his third homer in three games tied it up at 2 all. But the game was decided when Dave Waldie launched a solo homerun over the left field fence and into the beer tent. Byron Baraieski got the win.


Rutherflo 4 vs Port Perry 1 - Sunday June 28 - 10:30am - Byron Baraieski pitched 7 solid innings only allowing a run. Dave Waldie nailed a triple, then scored on a wild pitch by the Port Perry pitcher. Pat Rutherford, Dave Hare and Greg Newell each hit solo homeruns for Colborne.


There is a double knockout format. Since Port Perry has already lost once, it will only take 1 win for Rutherflo to win the tournament. Port Perry will have to beat Rutherflo two times, since they have not lost in the tournament yet.


Port Perry 7 vs Rutherflo 6 - Sunday June 28 - 3:00pm - Jeff Murphy got the start but Byron replaced him again in the 5th inning. First Baseman Craig Minifie had 2 homeruns for Rutherflo in a losing cause.

Rutherflo 9 vs Port Perry 4 - Sunday June 28 - 4:30 pm - The veternan Randy Fife got the start and played excellent in getting the victory to win the tournament for Rutherflo. Greg Newell hit yet another homerun for the Rutherflo Fastball Club in the first inning.

Tournament Notes - Rutherflo's record for this tournament was 5 wins and 1 loss. Rutherflo outscored their opponents 31 to 16 in only six games. Outfielder Greg Newell had 5 homeruns in just 6 games in the tournament for Rutherflo.
