ISC Area Qualifier
I.S.C Area Qualifier - Fingal, Ontario - July 10, 11 and 12th
Friday July 10 - 7:00pm: Rutherflo 3 - Sheddon 2:Rutherflo starts off the scoring in the bottom of the 5th inning when Rob Doncaster and Dave Hare both had infield hits. Randy Fife then comes up and doubles to the left-center field gap which scores both runs. The centerfielder got his foot stuck in the bottom of the fence helping Rutherflo to score both. But Sheddon comes right back in the top of the 6th innings and gets two runs to tie it. Rutherflo caps off a great game in the bottom of the 7th inning . Rob Doncaster hits a well hit ball to the left fielder who dives, but misses it, allowing Rob to get all the way to third base for a triple. Evan Loucks then comes up and nails a ball off the fence allowing Doncaster to score and win the game for Rutherflo. Notes: Randy Fife pitched a great game in earning the victory.
Saturday July 11 - 9:00am: Waterloo Twins 9 - Rutherflo 0: This one was not pretty for Rutherflo. Waterloo starts right off in the top of the 1st inning scoring 6 runs, which included a three run homerun. In the bottom of the 1st, Waterloo struck out the side. Waterloo scores a run in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th inning.Notes: Bryon Baranieski started the game but got replaced by Randy Fife in the 2nd inning. Dan Thompson threw a no-hitter for the Waterloo Twins. The highlight of the game for Rutherflo was Doncaster getting a walk and Craig Minifie getting hit by a pitch in the leg.
Saturday July 11 - 1:00pm: Port Perry 4 - Rutherflo 2: Port Perry gets off to a fast start by scoring all their 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning with two out. Colborne gets on the board in the 3rd inning. Dave Waldie starts it off with a single. Then Rob Doncaster pops one up to shortstop but he looses it in the sun and both runners are safe. Jeff Murphy then singles in Waldie. Next up, Bill Shannon singles in Rob Doncaster with a solid hit passed the second baseman. Unfortunatly, Rutherflo couldn't tie it up and bows out of the tournament.Notes: Jeff Murphy pitched a solid game getting the loss but picking up two hits in the process. For the first time this year, stellar shortstop Dave Waldie did not start in the leadoff spot for Rutherflo, he was 6th or 7th up in the order. Pitcher Mark Goreski got the win for Port Perry.
Tournament Notes
The Waterloo Twins won the tournament over the host Fingal Top Fundraisers by a score of 5 to 1.
For the first time this year, the Colborne Rutherflo Fastball Team did not win a tournament.
Colborne Rutherflo were missing speedy Ron Herriot, Captain Steve Connelly and power hitter Greg Newell for this tournament. Greg Newell played for the Scarborough Thunder in this tournament instead of Colborne.
Colborne didn't hit a homerun in three games, but came very close when Evan Loucks hit one off the fence for the game winning RBI on Friday night against Sheddon.
Rutherflo's record for this tournament was 1 win and 2 losses.
Rutherflo got outscored by oppenents 15 to 5.
Rob Doncaster went 5 for 7 for a .714 batting average in three games. He had 5 singles, a triple, a walk and 3 runs scored.
