NAFA AA World Series - Albuquerque, New Mexico

Thursday Aug 26 : 8am - Albuquerque Roadrunners 9 Rutherflo 7

The Roadrunners got a to a quick start by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 1st. 2 runs came off a sac fly to right field, where both runners on 2nd and 3rd tagged and scored. Byron Baranieski started the game but got pulled for Gary Vowles. Going into the 3rd it was 6-1 for the Roadrunners. In the Top of the 3rd, Rutherflo woke up. Rich Burkholder started it off with a single, followed by a Dave Waldie RBI triple to make it 6-2. Ron Herriot then singled home Dave to make it 6-3. In the 5th, the Flo made it 7-4 when Craig Minifie Doubled in Dave Waldie who got on with a single. Then they made it 7-5 in the 6th, when Evan Loucks and Pat Rutherford both got on with singles. Rob Doncaster singled home Evan. In the bottom of the 6th, Bryon comes back in to pitch but gives up 2 runs and fall behind 9-5. A 7th inning rally just falled short for Rutherflo. Ron Herroit started things off with a double. Craig Minifie then singles home Ron to make in 9-6. Bryon then comes up and nails a shot right on the left field line (which was fair) but the umpire calls it foul and Bryon ends up getting to first anyways during the atbat. Evan Loucks then comes up with the Bases loaded and grounds out to shortstop, but Minifie scores to make it 9-7. But thats it, the comeback fell short. Notes: Bryon takes the loss and gives up 7 runs in 2 innings. Gary Vowles gave up 2 runs in 4 innings.


Thursday August 26 : 2pm - Rutherflo 13 Alabama 4

Rutherflo led 9-0 after only the 1st inning. Rutherflo went through the first 11 batters without an out. Dave Waldie started it off with a leadoff triple.Ron Herroit singles home Waldie, 1-0. Craig Minifie and Chris Burkholder both walk to load the bases. Evan Loucks singles two home, 3-0. Rob Doncaster singles two home, 5-0. John Garland then singles, Bob to third. Bryon Baranieski then singles home Bob, 6-0. Derek Wrights walks to load the bases once again. Dave Waldie then singles home Bryon and John, 8-0. Ron Herroit then singles home Derek Wright, 9-0. Great diving catch by the rightfielder is first out on Craig Minifie. In the 2nd, John Garland doubles. Rob Doncaster is on third. Passball scored Bob, 10-0. Bottom of the 3rd, Rutherflo get the bases loaded once again with two walks to Craig Minifie and Rob Doncaster and Evan Loucks singled. John Garland walks to score Craig, 11-2. Bryon Baranieski then sends a sac fly 265 feet to score Evan, 12-2. In the top of the 4th, Alabama gets 2 runs back. With Ron Lewis Jr on base, his 56 yr old father Ron Lewis Sr. hits a 295 foot homerun to make it 12-4. Bottom of the 4th saw Rutherflo make it 13-4, when Chris Burkholder drove in bro Rich Burkholder with a sac fly. Notes: Bryon Baranieski pitched all 5 innings striking out 8 batters. The official scorer had the score 11-4 when the game was over. Its was changed to 12-4. But the score actually ended up 13-4. I doubled checked with our score keeper, it was 13-4.


Friday August 27 : 8am - Rutherflo 7 Arizona 5

Arizona takes a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st. In the bottom of the 1st, Dave Waldie leads off with a triple. But nobody could get him home. In the 2nd, Gary Vowles walks and John Garland doubles. Derek Wright singles home Gary, 4-1. During the 3rd, Ron Herroit gets hit by a pitch and Minifie singles. Chris Burkholder then grounds into a fielders choice to 2nd but Herroit scores to make it 4-2. John Garland then sends a triple over the centerfielders head to score Burkholder, 4-3. The 4th saw Pat Rutherford and Dave Waldie reach base thanks to errors. Passball moves them both up a base. Craig Minifie singles them both in, 5-4. Craig gets to 2nd on a error by the left fielder. Chris Burkholder then singles home Craig to make it 6-4 for Rutherflo. Chris then steals 2nd and Gary Vowles drives in Stoph with a singles, 7-4. Notes: Gary Vowles pitches the first 5 innings giving up 5 runs. Randy Fife pitched 2 scoreless innings to end the game.


Friday August 27 : Noon - Rutherflo 4 South California (Los Angeles) 1

Evan Loucks started things off with a mamouth solo HR in the top of the 2nd. Waldie also gets a RBI by driving in a run with the bases loaded, 2-0. In the 5th, Waldie walks and Craig Minifie drives him in with a single, 3-0. C.Burkholder then walks. Evan Loucks singles home Gary Vowles who came in for Craig, 4-0.


Friday August 27 : 5pm - Santa Barbara 6 Rutherflo 5

Dave Waldie leads off the game with a single. Ron Herroit then beats out his bunt. Craig Minifie drives in Waldie with a single. Evan Loucks then comes up and drives in Ronny with a single. Chris Burkholder then singles home Craig, 3-0. Bryon Baranieski then scores Evan with a sac fly, 4-0. In the 2nd. C.Burkholder singled and moved to 2nd on a Baranieski bunt.. Derek Wright then singles home Chris, 5-2. In the bottom of the 6th, Santa Barbara gets two runs to make it 5-4 still for Rutherflo. In the bottom of the 7th, Santa Barbara stole the game from the Flo. Bryon hits the first batter he faces. Randy Fife then comes in to replace Bryon. A bunt moves the runner to 2nd base. A double to make it 5-5 and a single end the game and the tournament for Rutherflo.

Rutherflo Notes

Colourful Catcher Tommy Jopling was a no show because of personal problems. Dave Hedger and Chris Burkholder shared the catching duties.

Dave Waldie had too many hits to count.

Rutherflo's record was 3 wins and 2 losses.

Rutherflo outscored their opponents 36 to 25 in 5 games.

They also had 61 hits and left 41 runners on base in 5 games.
