1997 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN STATE FREESTYLE SKATING TITLES
The S.A titles were held in the first week of April 1997.This was the first time ever but it will now be held annually.
by the Marion Council
The titles were sponsored by ROCES, OXYGEN, K2, STOP SUNGLASSES, ROLLERBLAZE SKATE STORE and SIXTH SENSE SKATE PARK.
Heaps of pro skaters came to the titles to both compete and judge(Josh Clarke, Manuel Billiris, Josh Pinkus, Kris Corvino
Darren Curtis, Heathen Anderson, James Newman, Steve Kyrou and Nick Kyrou)
These guys skated really well and were generaly very helpfull
The S.A Titles consisted of qualifiers and then the finals were held on the 5th and 6th of April
Day One Vert Finals
Open, U19, U16
All the vert ramp finals were great and Heathen Anderson skated brilliantly pulling smooth grinds and a 540 McTwist
and Manuel Billiris kicked butt in the vert ramp high air comp winning easily with consistent 6 and a half foot airs.
I got to the FINALS of u16 vert and I came 3RD and Im very Happy with that
Day Two Street Finals
Open, U19, U16
This was really cool to watch and compete in the street course was pretty good with 2 funboxes, jump ramps
quarterpipes, wall ramps, rails and a converted car with a huge rail on it every body skated really well John Avery
landed a Misty Flip over the converted car and Josh Pinkus Fishbrained it
I also competed in U16 street and I came 2ND and Im very pleased with that too
Overall the South Australian State Titles were excellent and I cant wait till the next time they are on

(1)First try this on a curb that is approximatly knee high
(2)Roll up and place your soul on topside and let it slide on for a little while
(3)Now rock back and stay low while grabbing your other foot
(4)Now you are grinding so balance and when you get to the end of the curb jump or slide off
(5)When you are comfortable doing it this "easy way" try jumping on
(6)When jumping on I find it easier to approach the curb at a 45 degree angle this way it is easier to lock on
(1) This trick is a lot easier to do if you have already tried a frontflip
(2) Get up lots of speed and use the launch ramp to throw yourself
(3) Try to flip forwards and to the side
(4) Your legs should go over your head and then there's landing
(5) When you land go with the movement by leaning back but
(6) Now roll away very happy because you've just landed a MISTY FLIP
