John Densmore
John Densmore.......the percussion lord. John was a rock and roll drummer when he became a member of The Doors. And, I think that he was one of the main reasons that the songs that show The Doors true rock ability sound so good. He played everything from extremly fast fills, to slow ballads. But, i think he always was able to get a little hint of rock and roll in every song he played. Just listen to "Who do you love?" or "Break on through" to hear some of his talents. He assisted in almost all of Jim's live poetry readings as well, by providing the eerie conga or hi-hat fills to accompany his words. You can hear evidence of this on the album "an american prayer". John Densmore was sort of the "icing on the cake" as far as the Door's music was concerned. While Ray did the foundation, Robbie acted as the catalyst, and Jim burned it all down; John helped pull it all together. He was able to stay in beat with all the rest of them, and somewhat control them in all those wild solos they did....so THEY stayed on beat. I think he is the most of an "unsung hero" of all the doors. I mean, everyone recoginzed Jim's vioce, Robbie's solos, and Ray's piano lines; but i think many people tend to forget that man behind the drum set. When all the glossy media and hype has been washed away, he stands to be one hell of a musician, and deserves to be remembered as one of the four great creators....trying to set the night on fire.
