Robbie Krieger....
Robbie Krieger is a name I will never forget. He is my guitar idol, and my total inspiration to further learn new styles on the instrument. He started playing the guitar around age 15, first working with rock and blues. However, he quickly made the transition to flamenco and spanish style, then he concentrated even more heavily on the blues, working on both solos and twangy, rubber band-style backgrounds. It is this multi-talent that acted as a catalyst for the doors playing. He "set the night on fire" so to speak, with his outlandish sounding lines that were completely his own. And, he seemed to be the perfect "person" for the job. Out of all the doors, i think he was the most unique as far as his disposition was concerned. Ray had this "doctor like" aura about him, John was a all-out rocker, and Jim.....well....Jim was everything at once. What did Robbie have? Dirt brown hair, a scraggled beard, and a habit of not quite finishing sentences. However, no one could solo like Robbie. He always was able to pull that miracle riff from the bag, much like another guitarist from his era....Hendrix. Without Robbie Krieger, the doors wouldnt be what they were, and are today. So, next time you need a little music that differs from song to song in many ways, pick up "waiting for the sun" or any of his solo albums, and you will not be disappointed. links.
