So what is Deadlands?
Well Deadlands is a role playing game from Pinnacle which is set in a fictional world similar to our own. The time is the mid 19th Century and the place is 'The Weird West.' Asking at your local games store should get you the basic rule book if you're interested. But here is a list of the basic rulebook and all the supplements we own and our views on them:
Deadlands Rulebook
Potts: This is what role playing should be like, all you need is the rulebook and imagination (oh yeah, and some friends). Quick and simple rules, praise be to Pinnacle.
Bob: I think Potts has covered it pretty well. The use of decks of cards works amazingly well and gives the game that extra bit of atmosphere. Dice can get so dull.
The Quick and the Dead
Potts: Can be useful, but only if you're really going to get into Deadlands, but a great resource material nonetheless.4/5.
Bob: Really helps bring the Weird West to life and provides literally hundreds of sound ideas for adventures. Essential purchase if just for the Black Magic rules.4/5
Book o' the Dead
Potts: This is good but it makes for power-hungry characters which can lead to the game getting a little uneven, but great if you can handle it.3/5.
Bob: The Marshall has to really emphasise the bad points of being a harrowed character which can distract from the adventure but is endless fun to use and makes a change from boring run-of-the-mill gunslingers.4/5.
Smith and Robards
Potts: Pure class, every person in the world should own this. Time to get Dineiro Five.5/5.
Bob: I'm not as convinced this is the answer as everyone else seems to be. Has a lot of good ideas but Quick and the Dead is a better investment.3/5.
Hucksters and Hexes
Potts: I'm not really into hucksters but I can see why Bob is now, although all of his hucksters never last very long. But it's pretty good anyway. Great mission in the back and the tricks are class.4/5.
Bob: This book gives Hucksters the boost they so desperately needed and hopefully my huckster characters will last a bit longer now. Essential purchase if you've ever wanted to try something different.5/5.
Marshall Law
Potts: The screen is the best thing to happen to Deadlands, everything you could want, it'll be out of date soon as material is coming out faster than George Micheal in a Public Lavatory.5/5.
Bob: I've always felt that placing a barrier between the Marshall and the players is a bad thing but it is a necessary evil and the information on it is useful.4/5.
