Jeff Gordon 2000 Race Comments

2-20-Daytona 500-Not a good way to start the new season! Jeff developed an oil leak early in the race. Looses 5 laps fixing the problem. At least it wasn't a DNF. The boys in the garage better get it together or it could be a long season!

2-27-Dura Lube/Kmart 400-A better finish, but still not up to par! Seems like Jeff, his crew chief Robbie Loomis, and the new Rainbow Warriors couldn't hit the right setup. Get on the stick boys! Better luck next week!

3-5-carsdirect.com 400-Another bad week. Robbie Loomis better get on the ball! Pit with the leaders or you will be down a lap every week! Poor decision making. The race being rained out didn't help matters any either. Many more weeks like this one and you can write this season off!

3-12-Cracker Barrel 500-An early pit late in the race because of a bad tire, put Jeff down 1 lap. He may have had a winning car this week! The pit crew needs a little more practice too! Best finish to date (9th).

3-19-Mall.com 400-Things are looking up! Jeff starts on the pole, pit crew turns out excellent stops, finishes on the lead lap for the first time this year, and best finish to date (8th). First Chevy to get pole this year.

3-26-Food City 500-Had the winning car, but thanks to Steve Park's pit crew leaving a tire on pit road for Jeff to hit, Jeff finishes 8th.

4-2-DIRECTV 500-Jeff's bad luck continues at Texas! Involved in chain reaction crash, but still finished the race 14 laps down.

4-9-Goody's Body Pain 500-May have had the winning car again this week, but Jeff was bitten by the new tire rule! Two weeks ago he was the victim of a tire left on pit road. Best finish to date (4th).

4-16-Die Hard 500-Wow! No penalties! No tires left on pit road! Jeff wins his first race this year! 50th career win! 9th winner in 9 races, the season is not over with yet!

4-30-NAPA Auto Parts 500-A tough weekend at California. Decent finish though (11th).

5-6-Pontiac Excitement 400-Ran well until a little mishap with Dale Jarrett and Bobby Labonte, caused by Dale Jarrett trying to cut Jeff off! Lost 2 places in the point standings, but gained on the leader.

5-20-The Winston*-Wow! Good thing this was a non-point event! Jeff was taken out in an accident caused by none other than Steve Park! (Sound familiar) All though it was not entirely Steve's fault, he was tagged from behind. If this was a point event it would have been Jeff's first DNF!

5-28-Coca Cola 600- Ran decent, but still not up to par! 10th place finish.

6-4-MBNA Platinum 400-Disappointing day! Jeff hits the wall with 20 laps left. Finishes 32nd. His first DNF of the year. In my opinion Robbie Loomis can not set up a car. Seems like the other Chevy's are running well. I hope that Jeff hasn't made any long term commitments with Loomis! A third of the season gone and Jeff is over 300 pts. out of first place in the point standings. Somebody better get on the ball!

6-11-Kmart 400-Well, you can see the writing on the wall! Who's calling the shots in the pits? Pit stategy is killing Jeff. I couldn't set the car up, but could make better decisions on when to pit! The clock is ticking! If you can't get a better crew chief then bring the '99 car back! It can't be any worse! 14th place finish in a rain shortened event.

6-18-Pocono 500-Thanks to a late pit stop Jeff was able to gain some track position. Seems that it is the only way he can gain anything. He hasn't been able to do it on the track!

6-25-SaveMart/Kragen 350K-About time! Jeff uses the '99 car to win his 6th consecutive road course! Good race with excellent pit stops and strategy.

7-1-Pepsi 400-Good run. 10th place finish after starting 34th! If not for the good pit stops, Jeff never would have made it up that far. He has a tough time getting anyone to run with in those restrictor plate races.

7-9-thatlook.com 300-Jeff ran well. 5th place finish in rain shortened event.

7-23-Pennsylvania 500-Good run! Should have won, but lost 4th gear. Still a 3rd place finish.

8-5-Brickyard 400-Disappointing weekend. Jeff always runs good at Indy, but did not qualify well and was caught up in a mishap after Mark Martin hit the wall, damaging his already not so good car, to make it worse! Also the weather was not cooperating as the clouds rolled in and kept the track cooler as the race proceeded. Finished 33rd. A well deserved win by Bobby Labonte. Look out next week! Another road coarse! Can Jeff make it 7 in a row?

8-13-Global Crossing @ the Glen-Thanks to Tony Stewart's bashing tactics, Jeff's bid for 7 consecutive road coarse wins has come to an end. The incident was uncalled for, especially on the 2nd lap! I'm sure Stewart will get his sooner or later! Tony Stewart must have stupid written across his forehead!

8-20-Pepsi 400-Another week with Tony Stewart taking Jeff out of the race again. If Stewart can't drive a race car, then get him out of it! Not only did he cause major damage to Jeff's car, but damaged Dale Earnhardt Jr as well. Fortunately no one was hurt. Next time everybody might not be as lucky. Tony go back to the dirt tracks! Maybe you can handle those cars!

8-26-Goracing.com 500-Jeff's bad luck continues! He looses a cylinder half way thru the race, but manages to finish only 1 lap down in 23rd. At least Tony Stewart was not a factor this week! What is it about Rusty Wallace? How can he keep running away from everybody like he has been? Seems his car has more horse power than everyone else. Think about it. Team Penske has been fined twice with Jeremy Mayfield cheating. Maybe Nascar needs to take a closer look at Rusty!

9-3-Pepsi Southern 500-Jeff ran good! To bad the race was shortened by rain. 4th place finish.

9-9-Cevrolet Monte Carlo 400-About time! Nobody takes Jeff out of the race and he wins for the 3rd time this year! Good decision to stay out on the track late in the race. If there had been 2 or 3 more laps, Jeff could have lost this one. Dale Earnhardt pitted for 4 tires and was charging hard, but came up short! (Jeff was penalized 100 points for a rule infraction. Intake manifold made from the wrong material! Come on what gives? It still met spcifications and did not make the car run any faster. I wonder how many more chevrolets were running the same manifold? Besides the driver points, 100 owner points, and a fine on Robbie Loomis of $25,000.)

9-17-New Hampshire 300-A good run, but could not muster enough speed to win with the new restrictor plate rule at New Hampshire. (Rule imposed to slow down the cars, due to the deaths of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin earlier this year.)

9-24-MBNA Gold 400-Ran with the leaders early, but couldn't keep the pace. Still ends up with a top 10 finish (9th).

10-1-NAPA Autocare 500-Top 5 finish! Ran well, but still not quite there! I guess it never will be this year!

10-8-UAW-GM Quality 500-What can I say? Just when things start to look up, Jeff gets caught up in another accident. Let's hope that his bad luck does not continue next year! 3rd DNF.

10-15-Winston 500-What a race! Jeff should have won! Qualified 8th, but had to start at the rear (43rd) in his back up car, due to damage of his primary car in Happy Hour. (Broken shock). Within 20 laps Jeff charged to the front for the lead! To bad he didn't lead the last lap! 4th place finish. (Why would you make changes to a car that moved from 43rd to 1st? Sure Jeff was loose, but his tires were worn after that run. Come on Robbie Loomis, get your head out of your butt! Fortunately it never turned out like a lot of the races where you have made changes to the car!)

10-22-Pop Secret 400-What a race. Jeff almost looked like days of old! 2nd place finish. The only way to make it any better is to WIN!

11-5-Dura Lube 500K-Not spectacular, but a good run. Started 24th and finished 7th. What more can I say? Wait until next year!!!!!

11-12-Pennzoil 400-Jeff ran good, but thanks to Nascars yellow flag for so called debris, soon after Jeff's final pit stop, put him a lap down, as well as everyone else that had pitted! That only left 6 cars on the lead lap! They should have waited to throw the yellow until everyone had pitted. What do you expect, they were in Florida! It was just like the presidental election!

11-19-NAPA 500-Good run. Should have won. Over adjusting the car, as was par for this year, didn't help! 4th place finish. Congrats to Jeff's team mate Jerry Nadeau, on his first Winston Cup win!
