Jeff Gordon 2001 Race Comments

2-18-Daytona 500-Not a good start to the 2001 season. Caught up in an 18 car pile up. A tragic last lap accident takes the life of Dale Earnhardt Sr.. Congradulations to Michael Waltrip in his first Winston Cup win. Under the circumstances, I hate to say this, but I can't help it! Tony Stewart you finally got yours! Maybe you will think twice before you run anyone into the wall again!

2-25-Kmart/Duralube 400-Good run for Jeff. He had the car but not quite the right setup. His tires would not hold up to the long run. 3rd place isn't a win but, 10 times better than last week!

3-4-UAW/DaimlerCrysler 400-Fantastic! Looked like the Jeff Gordon of old! Came on strong at the end for his first win of the season and his first win in Las Vegas! Wins another Winston No Bull $1,000,000! Jeff is 4 for 8 when running for a million dollars. That's 50%! Could this be a repeat of his 1995 Championship season? The whole team has to be fired up!

3-11-Cracker Barrel 500-Jeff should have won this race! I wonder who made the call to stay out on the track until he ran out of gas? Runs out of gas and goes a lap down. Thanks to team mate Jerry Nadeau for allowing Jeff to get his lap back. Strong finish, 2nd. The team is clicking! Keep it up! Nobody could touch Jeff's car today!

3-18-Carolina Dodge Dealers 400-Had a good car for the first half of the race. Had an over heating problem. 2nd DNF of the year. At least the Ford drivers should stop crying, they finally won a race!

3-25-Food City 500-Way to go Jeff! Another top 5 finish! Should have won! Jeff and Tony Stewart tangle again, only this time Jeff comes out on top! Even though Tony had it coming, we know he spun his self out on the last lap! Tony then spun Jeff on pit road, after the race was over! After it was all said and done, Tony tried to blame it on his spotter! His retaliation was uncalled for. NASCAR should make an example of Tony and make the penalty very stiff. If I were calling the shots, he wouldn't get another chance to do it again, he would be gone!

4-1-Harrah's 500-Good run for Jeff at Texas. 5th place is best he has ever done there. How can the Ford drivers say they have a disadvantage? They have only won the last 3 races! Come on Dale, cry some more! You sand bagging %#@%*%&!

4-8-Virginia 500-3rd pole of the year! Ran well, but not as well as he has been running. Some poor pit stops and decisions lost this race. I think the Fords have to big of an advantage! What do you say DJ?

4-22-Talladega 500-Jeff ran well early, then made changes to the car and just fell back. Why do you change a car that is running up front? Ask Robbie Loomis! Come on! You can't win a championship when you don't know what your doing! Put four knew tires on, fill the gas tank, and GO!

4-29-NAPA 500-Another good run! Not quite good enough to win, but almost! Seems like the Fords still have a slight advantage!

5-5-Pontiac Excitement 400-Good run. Another top 5 finish! Keep this up Jeff and you will have your 4th championship! Still need to turn some of these 2nd places into wins! WE WANT WINS!!! We forgive you for the slam with 2 laps to go Rusty! We know you only wanted to pay Tony Stewart back! Yeah, right! It'll be a cold day in you know where before I forgive you!

5-19-The Winston*-CHING! CHING! Another half of million dollars! Good run! Jeff wins his 3rd All Star non-point event, "The Winston"! Ties Dale Earnhardt Sr. for most wins at this event (3). Jeff started 20th in the first segment and finished 4th. Started 9th in second segment and finished 2nd. Started 2nd in the third segment and finished 1st!!! All of this in his back-up car! Due to rain at the start, Jeff and several other drivers were involved in a crash. All were allowed to get there back-up cars out.

5-27-Coca Cola 600-A little bad luck in the pits! Jeff clips Mike Wallace as he was pulling out of his pit stall. Causes to much damage to Jeffs car to be competitive. Who's fault was this? The pit crew? The spotter? The crew chief? Who's resposible for spotting in the pits? Who's in charge of the radio? Robby Lomis, that's who! Another miscue by the crew chief! And for Tony Stewart. Where do you get off calling people idiots? You are a danger to everyone on the track even when you only drive in one race in a day! What about the spin at the beginning of the race? Good thing you had to start at the back of the pack!

6-3-MBNA Platinum 400-HE'S BACK! The Jeff Gordon of old! The most dominating performance in a very long time for Jeff! Led 381 of 400 laps! Set a new record for most laps led in this race at Dover! A great job by the "FLAMEBO WARRIORS"! Some great pit stops! Glad to see no drastic changes to the car during the race. It just goes to show, "If it aint broke don't fix it!"

6-10-Kmart 400-BACK WITH A VENGENCE! That's 2 in a row! If you count "The Winston", that's 3 out of the last 4! Another dominating performance. Led 143 of 200 laps. Jeff is on a roll! Took over the point lead by 26 points! Took over sole possesion of 7th on the all time win list with his 55th win and 100th win for Hendrick Motor Sports! Jeff seems to have his confidence back. Another miscue in the pits on the last stop, a loose lug nut, could have cost Jeff the race, but no one could hold him back! Ricky Rudd did give him a run for his money though!

6-17-Pocono 500-All right, another 2nd place finish! If there would have been a late caution, who knows, Jeff might have won again! Not as dominating as the last 2 weeks, but still led the most laps! Look out next week, going to one of Jeff's favorite tracks! I'm glad Tony Stewart is still on probation!!!!!

6-24-Dodge/SaveMart 350K-Another good run! Locked the brakes up and lost the lead. Then, thanks to Tony Stewart, hitting Jeff again, Jeff lost 2nd place! You have another one coming Tony! Led the most laps 4 weeks in a row!

7-7-Pepsi 400-Jeff sure has had bad luck at Daytona this year! I am glad that's it for that track this year! Caught up in a major accident again! No where to go! Really ran well to. What's the matter Tony Stewart? Your big mouth won't get you out of this one! You did not answer the black flag, so take your punishment! If it was up to me, you would have been put in last place!

7-15-Tropicana 400-Running in the top 5 late in the race and lost a cylinder! Settles for 17th. That's enough bad luck, time to get back to winning!

7-22-New England 300-Jeff should have won this race! Another case of fixing the car when it aint broke! Why change a car that is way out front and running away with the race? Led the most laps. Jeff gets his 38th career pole and Hendrick Motor Sports 100th pole!

7-29-Pennsylvania 500-Should have won! Jeff dominated early on in the race, but an early pit stop late in the race because of a low tire, then a caution came out soon after, set Jeff half way back in the field. Still a good finish of 8th Led most laps again!

8-5-Brickyard 400-Wow! Jeff is on a roll! First 3 time Brickyard 400 winner! Started out very poor, but was there at the end of the race. Sure glad that Jeff didn't take Robby Lomis' advice on their last pit stop. Robby wanted to take fuel only! Jeff came back with, "We can't win that way!" They took 2 tires and took the race! This is no time for mistakes Robby! It doesn't take any longer to change 2 tires than it takes to get fuel! Another pouting session for Tony Stewart! He wouldn't talk to the media and one of his body gaurds (he needs them!), man handles a reporter. Wah! Wah! Wah!

8-12-Global Crossing@ the Glen-A big WOW!!! 2 wins in a row! Record breaking 7th career road coarse win! 4th win at Watkins Glen! Jeff truly is the KING OF THE ROAD COARSE! I bet Tony was pouting again!!!!

8-19-Pepsi 400-Can't complain about another top 10 finish! I'm sure that Jeff would have finished higher if the race hadn't been shortened by rain! Makes me wonder if a Dodge would have won, if it had not rained! 4 Dodges finished in the top ten.

8-25-Sharpie 500-Good run. Thought Jeff was going to win another one! Led most laps again! Well, I hope cry baby Stewart is happy! Why don't you tell everybody the real story behind your foot injury! What did you kick during your tantrum after the Watkins Glen race? Nobody believes you tripped over the dog! What a lame excuse!

9-2-Mt. Dew Southern 500-Another good day. Led most laps again! Should have won! Can you believe Ward Burton won the race? I guess he was due!

9-8-Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400-Bad day! Taken out by Sterling Marlin on lap 35! Jeff finished 36th, 117 laps down! I guess Jeff was over due for a day like this.

9-23-MBNA Cal Ripken Jr. 400-Great run! Might have won if not for the fender bender with Ricky Craven early in the race. Jeff and the pit crew worked hard to keep him in this one! Good job boys!

9-30-Protection One 400-Great race! Chalk up another win! Another Inaugural race win!

10-7-UAW-GM Quality 500-Not the best of days. Bad timing on a pit stop put Jeff down a lap and he never was able to make it up.

10-14-Old Domimion 500-Not the best of days, but turned out to be a good point day! Some miscues in the pits and over adjusting the car again! Come on guys, this is no time to be playing around! Ricky Rudd and Tony Stewart, both had engine trouble! Hang in there Jeff. Just need to finish 11th or better in the 6 remaining races for Championship #4!

10-21-EA Sports 500-Good point day! Should have finished in top 5, but got damaged in crash on last lap and finished 7th. Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins, but fails post race inspection. Car was 1/8th inch to low, and he did not jump on top of his car! Kevin Harvick makes another enemy! Looks like Kevin is becoming another Tony Stewart! Get out of my way or I'll crash you!

10-28-Checker 500-Good consistent run! A little problem with a tire set Jeff back, but finsihed 6th! Only needs to finish 24th or better in the last 4 races for his 4th CHAMPIONSHIP! I can here the fat lady singing!!!

11-4-Pop Secret 400- Not so good today. Only needs to finish 28th or better in last 3 races!

11-11-Pennzoil 400-Another not so good day! A little bad luck. Just needs to finish 32nd or better next week to clinch the championship!

11-18-NAPA 500-Clinches the Championship! That's number 4! Should have won this race! Fixing the car when it aint broke again! Add another 3.6 million dollars to this years winnings! Jeff is now the all time money winner! Only the 3rd person to ever win more than 3 championships!

11-23-New Hampshire 300-Jeff loses his cool in this one. Cost him any chance of winning the race. A little confrontation with Robby Gordon, penalized Jeff 1 lap! Robby you have one coming! I guess Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick can get away with driving like that so I guess you can to! After you hit Jeff the first time it was an accident, but when you hit him the second time, it was no accident! You'll pay!
