Jeff Gordon 1999 Race Comments

2-14-Daytona 500- What a Race! 2nd Daytona win! Another No Bull Million! Jeff is 4 for 5 when Racing for $1,000,000! Largest purse in a single race $2.1 Million! Broke his own record which was set at the 1998 Brickyard 400 where he won $1.6 Million! Looks like he has picked up where he left off last year. Let's hope he continues!

2-21-Dura Lube/Big K 400- A bad day at the "ROCK"! 39th place finish after losing an engine.

3-7-Las Vegas 400-Fair day at Las Vegas. Not quite enough to beat the Burton Brothers though. Better luck next week.

3-14-Cracker Barrel 500-Way to go Jeff! A good day at Atlanta. Great pit stradegy!

3-21-Transouth Financial 400-Not good pit strategy this week! Should have won this race! Let's hope he makes up for it next week at Texas.

3-28-Primestar 500-Bad day! Crash makes for worst finish ever in a Winston Cup Race for Jeff (43rd). He has yet to finish a race at Texas. 3 races there and 3 crashes. Not to mention his crash in the Busch race yesterday!

4-11-Food City 500-Well, Jeff's winning streak at the Food City 500 has finally come to an end at 4. I believe he would have won this race if he hadn't got tangle in a crash. Still he finished 6th! Hard to believe the way his car looked after the crash!

4-18-Goody's Body Pain 500-Finally a decent day! Finishes 3rd. What's with John Andretti all of a sudden? Down by one lap and comes back to win the race?

4-25-Die Hard 500-Looks like all of Jeff's luck is bad so far this year. Another crash! That's 3 DNFs! At least it wasn't his fault.

5-2-California 500-Chalk up another win for Jeff! Good race. Maybe this will get him back on track.

5-16-Pontiac Excitement 400-Another day of bad luck. Poor tires and another race with poor driving by other drivers. Good thing Jeff Burton had a bad day to!

5-22-The Winston-Good race! Won the first segment. Won the second segment. Should have taken 4 tires instead of 2 for the last 10 lap segment. The restart after the false start didn't help matters any either!

5-30-Coca-Cola 600-Jeff's luck has been pretty bad this year. 4 DNFs! Looks like any chance of a championship this year are slipping away. It will takes some bad luck for the top 4 drivers in the standings to get back in contention.

6-6-MBNA Platinum 400-Good day! Should have won, but couldn't take the chance on running out of fuel.

6-13-KMART Michigan 400-Another good run. Boring race though. No yellow flags. That could have gave Jeff a chance to win, with a yellow flag late in the race.

6-20-Pocono 500-Another good run. Who knows he may have won if it hadn't been for that early pit stop that put him at the back of the field. That is 3 2nd place finishes in a row! He is knocking at the door! A crash buy Jeff Burton pulled Jeff closer to the point leaders. Now just need to see it happen to a couple more of the top 4!

6-27-Save Mart/Kragen 350-BIG WIN! Badly needed! Gained some points today! 4th road course win in a row! Jeff had a close call though. He ran off the track while leading and lost 2 spots, but came back for the win!

7-3-Pepsi 400-What happened? I think Jeff made some bad decisions on who to run with on this one. Looked like he couldn't make up his mind sometimes. Then a crash in front of him with 2 laps to go, dropped him back from 9th to 21st.

7-11-Jiffy Lube 300-A good run. Another clash with Rusty Wallace! That's 3 years in a row! What are you suppose to do when you get run off the track? What about the bumping with Dale Jarrett? Looks like the racing is going to get a little dirty from here on out!

7-25-Pennsylvania 500-How much bad luck can one guy have? I wish some of that would go Jarrett's way! A flat tire took Jeff right out of this race.

8-7-Brickyard 400-Good race! Wrong winner! 10 more laps and who knows! Jeff might have won this one!

8-15-Frontier at the Glen-Great race! 5th consecutive road coarse win! Another record for the kid!

8-22-Pepsi 400(MI)-Another good finish! If not for the slower traffic Jeff may have won this one too!

8-28-Goody's HP 500-Another decent finish for Jeff! A couple more crashes for Jarrett and Jeff will be there to pick up the pieces! Race was marred though. Dale Earnhardts bumping of Terry Labonte was uncalled for. Bumping a guy is one thing, but causing him to crash is another. Especially on the last lap!

9-5-Pepsi Southern 500-Poor pit strategy in this race. Should have finished in the top 5. How many more races will Jeff Burton win from rain outs?

9-11-Exide Select 400-Just not Jeff's year. Disappointing finish of 40th, after trasmission problems. Drops 2 places in the point standings.

9-19-Duralube/Kmart 300-Good finish, after having some handling problems early on then being involved in an accident! Could have been another disastrous week!

9-26-MBNA Gold 400-Not a good day. Some poor decision making in the pits. Maybe it is time for Ray Evernham to move on! This is not the only race where poor pit strategy and decisions have caused a poor finish!

10-3-NAPA Autocare 500-Good Race! Good pit strategy today. New crew chief Brian Whitesell makes a gutsy call near end of race to stay out on the track while everyone else pits under yellow, and gives Jeff the win! Tony Stewart finally gets his for his plowing tactics! Glad to see someone retaliate against him!

10-10-UAW-GM Quality 500-Fantastic! 2nd win in a row! Great come back! Looks like the Rainbow Warriors are back on track! It looked like Bobby Labonte had this one won, but you know how Jeff is good at making that final run for the checkered flag!

10-17-Winston 500-Well, you can't win them all! I think Jeff made a couple of bad decisions in the final laps of this race. He should have finished in the top 5.

10-24-Pop Secret 400-A better finish than what Jeff had at Rockingham in Feb. I see Tony Stewart plowed into someone again! I guess he will never learn!

11-7-Dura Lube 500-Enough is enough! How many more distractions will Jeff have to endure this season? First Ray Evernham leaves the team, now his pit crew is leaving him next year for Dale Jarrett. I bet they leave Jarrett in 2001 and go with Evernhams new team.

11-14-Pennzoil 400-Looks like Jeff has a lot of work to do in the off season. 2 months to get a new team together and trained. That's gratitude for you! I Think he has lost some of his nerve. He needs to drive thoughs poor handling cars like they are good handling ones! Stand on it!

11-21-NAPA 500-Another DNF! Blown Engine. I for one am glad this season is over! This would have been a good season for most drivers, but uncharateristic of Jeff to have so many DNF's, it was a bad year. He really needed a good run here. Now comes the task of selecting a new pit crew! I am sure the new crew will be better than the last!
