His breaths were coming slower now, quieter and quieter still.
The nurse came in, shook her head, and closed the window sill.
The nurse looked sadly at the girl by the boy’s side.
The girl looked at the nurse and breathed a silent “why?”.
The nurse sighed and quietly said, “He just can’t make it....the wounds are too severe.”
“The shots pierced his lung and spine. He’ll die soon....I’m sorry dear.”
Tears welled up in the girl’s green eyes and ran silently down her cheek.
They were so good together, Homecoming was just in a week.
He would never make it now, to dance and laugh by the stage.
Because his anger and jealousy had killed him, he had died from his rage.
He had been so mad that night.
So mad he had decided to fight.
He had seen her with another guy.
His anger built up. He started to fight, she started to cry.
She fought and pleaded for the fighting to end.
She didn’t want someone to lose and someone to win.
Just when it seemed her boyfriend had won the fight,
thats when the gun came into sight.
The other boy glared at his rival and held the gun high,
He aimed the gun and with his eyes said ‘your gonna die’.
The next thing she remembered was three loud shots
followed by blood.....lots and lots.
Now he laid here....dying in the hospital bed.
She sighed and on his chest gently laid her head.
Then she heard his voice, quiet and strained, say so lovingly
“I know you weren’t there to hurt me, I know you weren’t leaving me.
I know this now, but now I have to go.
I’ll see you again, don’t forget I love you and now you know.”
Then he died. He breathed his last breath.
She cried and cried, til she felt she had no tears left.
Her boyfriend was gone, forever more.
Now she had to settle the score.
She walked out of the hospital room, her mind filled with anger and hate.
She would avenge the death of her boyfriend and she wouldn’t be late.
Author’s Note: This poem is meant to show how hate begins one way and
continues in a
cycle of violence, anger, jealousy, and sin.
