Kristia looked out at the about to lighten sky. She ran her fingers threw her
hair and smiled. "Halloween morning, gotta love it."
She spread her wings and jumped off the tower. Kristia glided over to the courtyard and perched on a bench. The courtyard was filled with , fragrant fall flowers. The gargress inhaled deeply and grinned. "Tonight’s going to be so much fun." She picked the bloom off a mum that was planted beside her and twirled it between her talons happily.
Suddenly she sensed a presence around her. Kristia glanced around her, but saw no one. Suddenly the wind picked up and blew her bloom away. She heard a noise and turned just in time to be blown in the face by a gust of dust-filled wind.
"AK!" Kristia coughed and rubbed her eyes. "Ugh...figures. Guess the wind is telling me to go get ready for dawn." She laughed and scaled the nearby wall.
The sun was about to rise as she alighted on her perch. Kristia glanced
over at the rest of the Manhattan clan. "Happy Halloween guys!" Everyone
nodded to her happily then took their poses. The sun rose, freezing Kristia in
a delighted grin.
Titania appeared on the tower behind a solid stone Kristia. Beside her
3 almost identical faes stood with smiles on their faces.
"She didn’t suspect anything, my Queen." The blonde one commented.
"She didn’t dream that the dust in the wind was really magic." said the black-haired one.
"Magic that will make her dream, and make us come into and see her dream." said the white-haired one.
Titania turned and looked at her children. "The dust will make her dream daughters, but only she will determine what she dreams about." The 3 sisters nodded and looked closely at the stone Kristia infront of them.
"Maybe this will help her realize who she really is." Titania said. Suddenly the fae queen exploded into a beam of green light along with the 3 sisters. The 4 beams slowly seeped into the smiling stone gargress.
The air was misty and smelled of wildflowers. The sun filtered in
threw the multi-colored leaves of the huge oak and maple trees. A light wind
rustled the dew covered grass.
Kristia looked around, surprised by her surroundings. "Where am I? A forest? In New York?"
She glanced down to surprisingly find that she was in human form. Even more surprising was what she was wearing. Her dress was crushed purple velvet, which dragged the ground. Her sleeves were wide, almost reaching the ground also. She was wearing a lace bodice with gold lining.
Kristia’s face was filled with confusion as she drew her attention away from her outfit. Although she was confused at where she was, Kristia felt unusually peaceful and calm. She took a deep breath and looked closer at her surroundings.
She was standing in the middle of a field surrounded by trees. Scattered everywhere in the field were dots of orange.
"Pumpkins..?" she asked herself.
Kristia lifted up her dress so that she could walk and began to stroll threw the pumpkins. She looked at all of them. All the different shapes, sizes, and shades of orange. Finally she saw infront of her a very unusual group of pumpkins. They weren’t orange, and unlike the others in the field, these had faces carved in them.
She looked at them closely. They were purple, red, tan, green, aqua, and blue. She walked up to the one closest to her. It was purple, large, and the face carved into it looked familiar...? She felt drawn to it most of all. Something about it....?
Suddenly she heard a bird call above her. She straightened up and gazed at the beautiful blue sky. Above she saw a large blue dove circling above her. Following it were 3 smaller birds, one black, one gold, and one white.
All of a sudden the 4 birds dove to the earth behind Kristia. She whirled around to see them and was surprised to notice that now, instead of birds, four feminine faes stood in their place.
"Queen Titania? Weird sisters? What is this? Where am I? Why did you bring me here?" Kristia asked, still baffled.
Titania smiled reassuringly. "We did not bring you here, Kristia. You did."
"What do you mean 'I did'...?"
"This is your dream."
"My dream? I thought gargoyles couldn’t dream during stone sleep....?"
Finally the weird sisters spoke, finishing phrases for each other as usual.
"It is a rare thing yes...It does not happen often..."
"Few gargoyles will ever experience such a pleasure as a dream...."
"You are fortunate."
Kristia frowned. "I’ve had many dreams, as a human yes...but they were dreams. I didn’t like any of them."
"Those were not dreams my dear, they were nightmares. Nightmares of your past...the past you are so wanting to hide." Titania stated.
Kristia frowned angrily. "What do you know of my past....?"
"I know all of it. However you have no need to worry. I will never tell your past to your clan, Xanatos, or even my daughter Fox....your secrets are safe."
Kristia looked at them all strangely. "How can I trust your word?"
Titania’s reassuring smile still stayed on her face. "I give you my word as the Queen of the third race."
Kristia looked at Titania wonderingly for a minute, then relaxed slightly. She glanced down at the unusual pumpkins infront of her. "Do you know what this dream means?"
"Do you?" Titania asked.
"No."
The weird sisters again answered for their queen.
"A dream is more than it seems, Kristia..."
"It hides your feelings, your ideas, and your past within it..."
"Only you however...can make sense of it."
Kristia nodded slowly at the faes. "I understand. I guess....?"
Titania stepped closer to Kristia. "Remember the words of my children." she whispered.
Titania stepped back and in a brilliant flash of light, she and the weird sisters were gone. However their words still floated in the air....
Kristia sighed and turned. Behind her still were the strange pumpkins. She now noticed one she hadn’t before.
It sat next to the large purple one. Where the face was carved was a dark tan, the back however was coal black. She picked it up to examine the face closer. It was feminine.....and familiar.....?
"Ah!" Kristia gasped as the pumpkin slipped out of her hands. She watched in horror as it fell to the ground and smashed into several pieces.
Kristia roared ferociously, daring the night to challenge her. Her
wings snapped up and out, her fangs glistened, and her talons ripped at the
air. Once her instincts succeeded, she shook a few stone shards off her body
and glanced around. All at once the memory of her dream came into her
mind. She sat at her perch staring out at the city, broading over it. The
words of the weird sisters echoed in her mind.
"The dream is more than it seems, Kristia..."
"It hides your feelings, your ideas, and your past within it..."
"Only you however...can make sense of it."
"Kristia?"
Kristia turned around, startled by the voice.
"Oh, hello Goliath.”
"Are you all right? You seemed..." He stopped for a moment and looked at her...trying to find the right words. "you seemed as if you were thinking of long ago...of your past."
"Kristia! Goliath! Come on! Its Halloween...no time to waste! Parties and costumes remember?!" Brooklyn shouted from a doorway across the castle.
Kristia sighed. "Goliath....my past...." she started to walk off, leaving Goliath standing bewildered at her perch.
She whispered over her shoulder as she walked.
"....my past....is a nothing but a dream......."
