PART TWO: OUR INSECT FRIENDS
We chose the termite as our insect friend.Termites are amazing! They live in a community well organised with a leader like people. They are social insects. Termites teach us alot about social behaviour. They feed on alot of things like organic matter, say wood and other plants. They produce sugars which they use to feed their young.
The termites build and live in a well elaborate enclosure called an anthill. These insects are well developed in terms of communication for example some species have a habit of vibrating their abdominal parts in case of danger.
Associated with the anthills are the edible mushrooms which germinate during the rains season. These mushrooms are very delicious. This is common where the ground around has not yet been tampared with by man by cutting bush or digging.
Their predators are birds. Some people also eat termites.
Termites are economically important. The destroy timber and some building. They disorganise compunds. Partly because of this man usaually interferes with the termites habitat. Man usually uproots the anthill so as to make compounds look smart like it is done our school compound.
******************************************************************************** PART THREE: TELECOMMUNICATION FOR DEVELOPMENT
Telecommunication is the branch of the communications sector that deals with the telephones, telegrams and the like. Development is briefly, the change of lifestyle, attitudes and the social and ecomic lives of the people in an economy. In todays changing world, telecommunication has played a great role in development as shown below.
Telecommunication has reduced the delays in communication. The time taken in message transfer from one place to another has changed for the better and this is a clear sign of development !
It has encouraged social mobility. Different parts of society can now get together without necessarily seeing each other for developmental ideas that can be integrated for development.
Telecommunication itself is part of infrastructure and a country without infrastructure is less developed.
It also has been instrumental in exposing the remote areas of third world countries to the "Light of the world”-devloped countries. Here peoples attitudes are changing towards working for development rather than remaining in their old traditional ways.
The telecommunication sector also provides employment to those who work there as switch board operators engineers etc. and with an increased number of the employed development is certain.
Telecommunication has increased the standards of living. With a phone or telegraph at home one needs not waste a lot of time traveling to go and talk to some one a distance apart. And increasing standards of living are a sign of development.
Communication has been made easy, cheap and effective. With the mobile phones one can reach out to the world any time, any place with ease and at a cheaper price considering time , energy and money. Telecommunication makes it feasible for internet projects like the Human Environment Friends to take place!
“No man is an island “, goes the saying. With telecommunications , the globe is like a nucleus that is integral. Point to point connections bring mankind closer to each other. A cross section of countries or areas lacking the service of the telecommunication shows them as less developed hence specifying the significance of telecommunications in development.
