Stone Mother
According to Pauite legend, there once lived a mother whose children would not listen. In exasperation she sat down in the desert and cried... cried so much that Pyramid Lake, Nevada now sits in the middle of the desert.
This background set was made with several images that I took of the Stone Mother and her basket at Pyramid Lake, not far from Nixon, Nevada.
In 2002 when I took the image that is being used with the java lake applet, Stone Mother was on an island.
Drought has lowered the level of her tears. The buttons are made from a picture taken in 2004; the memorable tufa formation is now connected to shore.
Background Set
The Stone Mother background set was created in May 2004.
You are welcome to use any or all of the images that make up the "Stone Mother" background set on personal, not-for-profit, and in fact, even on for-profit web pages.
And, you can do this at no financial cost; your cost will be free advertising for my own endeavors on the WWW.
Which means you need to use one of my logos (it doesn't have to be the one on this page) and link back to ---

And though it isn't a requirement, I would appreciate an e-mail from anyone who plans to use my work, so I can see your ideas.

Java Lake Applet
The free java lake applet by David Griffiths that I used with
the is available at http://www.free-applets.com/. There are actuall two images being used in the applet on the top of this page; the image that the applet is working on is just the background, the oval-shaped overlay of Stone Mother hides a rectangle.
The site where you can get the free java lake applet describes how write the code needed to use this applet, but you are also welcome to look at the source code for this page.
