Launching the journey
Programs
The Medical Information Group is a politically neutral non-profit organization.
It is founded in 1995. A group of teachers and some enthusiastic students
of Dhaka Medical College are associated with this. The organization aims
at providing modern touch of the developed world to the age old traditional
medical education and health system of the country. Thus, information,
the most effectiveinstrument of the modern time has been rightfully chosen.
We like to procure appropriate information from both home and abroad and
to disseminate them amongst all with ease and without hindrance.

Students' self-development
scheme | Programs
- Under this program students are given assistance for self-assessment
of learning progress and for alleviating deficiencies, if any. Every one
requires to fill up a checklist on weekly basis. The checklist incorporates
items, such as, class attendance, attention, reading and understanding
of lessons taught in classes, writing of laboratory notes, regularity of
participation in
examinations, marks obtained, etc. and helps to determine the ratings of
academic progress of individual students. This gives the concerned student
an impression of the status of learning and alerts about the deficiencies.
The MIG facilitates the process and also assists the students to correct
the deficiencies by themselves.
Audio-video library | Programs
- Under this scheme, efforts have been undertaken primarily for audio
recordings of the teachers' class lectures. In the past, valuable lectures
of the experienced and eminent teachers were lost. This enables students
to later navigate through the lessons, if they fail to fully follow the
lectures. It further influences the teachers to improve the quality of
lectures. In addition, video films are being collected with the help of
different pharmaceutical companies, individuals and institutions. It is
also planned to procure some educational audio and video cassettes from
abroad.
Rewarding
the deserving students & teachers | Programs
- Currently, there is limited provision for rewarding the students who
obtain distinctions in examinations. The MIG has introduced such rewarding
system. Endeavors are also taken to identify and to reward those worthy
and dedicated teachers who, through their knowledgeable lessons, excellent
presentations and cooperative attitudes to the students, are playing commendable
roles in medical education. 'Students' opinion survey' through specific
checklists on items, such as, lesson contents, style of expression, capability
of presenting complex things in most simple forms, personality, relationship
with the students, and attitude towards them, etc. serves as the tool for
nominating deserving teachers.
Research | Programs
- We develop interests amongst the students for research activities.
Students are offered practical training on all research aspects, viz. selecting
appropriate and interesting topics, protocol development, data collection,
analysis and interpretation, report writing and presentation.
News and
information clipping service | Programs
- Summaries of medical news, views and articles published in news papers
and medical journals are compiled and distributed amongst the interested
teachers, doctors, nurses and students on fortnightly basis. The clients
require to provide a nominal service charge. Provision for supplying copy
of original document is also available on request. The MIG also gladly
accepts the requests for distributing the newsletters and publications
of other organizations/institutions. The MIG also publishes brochures,
posters, news-letters, research reports and books.
Information
Technology services | Programs
- The MIG earnestly expects the application of latest computer technology
in medical education and health system. Accordingly, we have introduced
Medical Internet Service, MEDINET, computer training programs for medical
students, doctors and teachers. To help getting requisite information for
carrying out research activities, we introduced CD based POPLINE
service.
Seminars &
discussion sessions | Programs
- There is regular arrangement for holding seminars, symposia and discussion
sessions on topic of current interests and problems of medical education
and profession. Variety of topics and application of modern technologies
are special attraction.
