THE REDCOATS ARE LEAVING

PARKERSBURG'S DAYS AS A MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL CITY HAVE COME TO AN END.

THE OHIO VALLEY REDCOATS ARE ENDING THEIR 6 YEAR RUN IN PARKERSBURG AND MOVING ON. THURSDAY NIGHT REDCOATS OWNER JIM NELSON ANNOUNCED THAT MAJORITY INTEREST IN THE THE FRONTIER LEAGUE FRANCHISE HAS BEEN SOLD TO A 20 PERSON OWNERSHIP GROUP IN HUNTINGBURG INDIANA.

THE NEW OWNERS IS MOVING THE TEAM THEIR AND RENAMING IT THE
DUBOIS RED DRAGONS THE SELL WAS MONTHS IN THE WORK, THE DEAL WAS COMPLETED OVER THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED BY THE FRONTIER LEAGUE.

EARLIER NEGOTIATIONS WITH A GROUP INTERESTED IN KEEPING THE CLUB IN PARKERSBURG FELL THROUGH. NELSON CITED A MOUNTING FINANCIAL LOSSES IN RECENT YEARS BECAUSE OF A LACK OF SUPPORT AS THE REASON BEHIND THE MOVE.

THE REDS COATS PLAYED IN THE SMALLEST BALLPARK HAD THE LEAGUE'S SMALLEST ATTENDANCE.

THE REDSCOAT WERE BORN 6 YEARS A GO AS PART OF A SMALL 8 TEAM REGIONAL ROOKIE FRONTIER LEAGUE. BUT THE SUCCESS OF THE LEAGUE TOOK OFF, AND TEAMS IN CITIES LIKE ASHLAND KENTUCKY, ZANESVILLE OHIO, AND PORTSMOUTH WERE WERE SOLD AND MOVED TO BIGGER CITIES LIKE CANTON OHIO AND EVANSVILLE INDIANA.

THE MANAGER

Greg LeMaster: Started with the Recoats as an assistant under Lee Mrowicki in 1993. He became manager during mid-season and guide the Redcoats to a second half division title, a playoff victory and a birth in the Frontier League's first Championship series. 1994 Frontier Manager of the Year with a 50-17 record. LeMaster is the assistant prinicipal at Spencer Middle School in Spencer,WV. He graduated from West Virginia Tech and has a Master's degree from Marshal University.

COACHES

Tom Waelchli(Hitting Coach): Spent the last two season as the pitching coach for Kalamazoo Kodiaks of the Frontier League. He played minor league baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1978-79 and later served as a batting practice coach for the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays from 1984-91. Tom has also been a head coach at Macomb Community College and a manager of the Mason City Bats of the Great Central Independent League.

Rob Guzik(Pitching Coach): Pitched in the New York Mets Farm System from 1985-89 reaching Double A. Served as Cincinnati Reds New England Scouting Supervisor in 1997.

GENERAL MANAGER

Steve Swisher: Former 1st Round Draft Pick by the Chicago White Sox 1973.Graduate of Ohio University. Spent nine year in the majors with the Cubs, Cardinals and Padres. Played in the 1976 All Star Game for the Cubs. Managed in the Midwest League (Iowa), Southern League (Binghamton) International League (Tidewater) American Association (New Orleans) and the New York Mets as the bull pen coach.

OWNERS Phil Ullom: Resident of Belpre, Received a graduate and law degree from Ohio State University. Phil works for the human resource consulting firm of Watson Wyatt Worldwide, as their director of account management for the Midwest Region.

Mike Hayes:Resident of Chicago,a graduate from Northwestern and the University of Michigan. Mike is a partner with the firm Price Waterhouse LLP, where he is their national practice leader for retirement benefit consulting.
