DREAMS OF A LOST ONE

On a cold and crisp and sunny winter's day

I look across an open field and think

I see you opening a gate to let the

Bison through to the water trough

To get a drink...

I guess it's just the sunlight glimmering

On the snow so white or is it...

I feel your presence when the wind

Blows snow around me as I set out grain and hay

For the bison and deer that come around

When the snow is too deep for

Them to forage on a cold December day...

I guess it's just the wind blowing

around me, or is it...

A Native American Prayer

Oh Great Spirit,
whose voice I hear in the winds,
and whose breath gives life to all the world
-hear me-
I come before you, one of your children.
I am small and weak.
I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold
the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made,
my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise, so that I may know the things
you have taught my People.
The lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength not to be superior to my brothers,
but to be able to fight my greatest enemy,
myself.
Make me ever ready to come to you,
with clean hands and straight eyes,
so when life fades as a fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you without shame.

Oh Great Spirit

Let your voice whisper righteousness in our ear
through the west wind in the late of the day.
Let us be comforted with love
for our brothers and sisters with no war.
Let us hold good health mentally and physically
to solve our problems and accomplish something
for future generations of life.
Let us be sincere to ourselves and our youth
and make the world a better place to live.
