The History of the L.T. Bison Ranch Inc.
The L.T. Bison Ranch Inc. was started back in 1989
by my father Mike Orkusz. The first bison purchased didn't
arrive until April 20, 1992. Three years were
spent fencing
the 150 acres and designing the handling facility. Once everything
was completed and the bison were grazing. We purchased our
single sire bull "Koda" from Tony Heim in South Dakota.
Tony had purchased "Koda" from Larry and Dixie Byrd
of South Dakota. "Koda's" father was "R.R. Bubba" who was a
Gold Trophy winner in Denver 1990. Larry and Dixie use
R.R. Bubba's picture on their advertising. "Koda's" mother
was "Cheyenne", who was a Gold Trophy winner
in Denver 1987. Since my father's passing in July of 1998
I have kept my promise to him by carrying on
his dream.
Sixteen months since his passing, I entered
an animal in the Canadian Bison Show N Sale in Regina and
won the first place yearling heifer and Reserve Grand Champion.
I take great pride in running the ranch and pride myself on the time
and the effort that is put into these animals.
