MacLEAN, Donald A. "Dan Alex" - 82, Brook Village and formerly of West Mabou, died January 1, 2000, at home. Born in West Mabou, he was a son of the late Angus and Mary (Campbell) MacLean. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Mabou, and was recently a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Brook Village. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 132, Inverness. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and his dearest cousin, Catherine Beaton, in Mabou. He was predeceased by brothers, John Frances, Dan Joseph, Steven, Angus Anthony and John and sisters, Mary, Catherine and Tina. Visitation will be in St. Mary's Church, Mabou, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Rev. Angus Morris and Rev. Born in Moncton, she was a daughter of Helen (Spence) Livingstone and the late Ralph Livingstone. She loved to quilt, play darts, bowl, and was a music lover. McLEAN, Helen Fern - 72, Regent Street, North Sydney, died January 5, 2000, in the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Born in Leitches Creek she was the daughter and only child of the late Hugh McKay and Grace (Oram) McLean. She was a life long resident of Leitches Creek and North Sydney. She was employed by the bank of Nova Scotia, North Sydney Branch for 42 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney where she was the Sunday school treasurer for many years and since her retirement she was treasurer of the United Church Women and assistant treasurer of the church. MacLEAN, Christopher Robin Kenneth P.H.D. - 45, Fairfield, Iowa, formerly of Bedford, died January 6, 2000, in University of Iowa Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was the beloved son of Peggy MacLean, Bedford, and the late C. Howard MacLean. Christopher earned his bachelor of science degree while attending Acadia University, after which he moved to Ottawa where he worked with Energy Mines and Resources. Christopher spent the rest of his life in Fairfield, Iowa, where he attended MIU. Christopher's studies led him to earning his Ph.D. in physiology. He went on to pursue a career in the field of medical technology. Christopher's entire life was greatly enriched with his love of music which he pursued as an accomplished bass player. Christopher is survived by his sister, Charlotte (Robert) Foster, Ottawa; brothers, David (Nancy), Bedford; John (Dale), Hatchet Lake; Sandy (Kimberly), Moncton, N.B. Christopher will also be missed by his only niece, Gillian MacLean; nephews, Sean, Andrew and Scott MacLean, Matthew Foster and Nicholas MacLean. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday, in T.K. MacLEAN, John Angus - 84, died January 12, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. A lifelong resident of 80 French St., Whitney Pier, he was a son of the late John Donald and Elizabeth (MacDonald) MacLean. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and was employed at Sydney Steel as a machinist for 42 years retiring in 1978. MacLEAN, Donald Archie - 90, longtime resident of Forest Street, Glace Bay, died Friday, January 14, 2000, in Taigh Na Mara where he had resided for the past number of weeks. Born in Donkin, he was a son of the late Angus and Jennett (Scott) MacLean. He was employed for 50 years as a coal miner retiring in 1973. A veteran of the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Artillery in Europe and was a member of John Bernard Croak VC, Glace Bay Branch 3 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a charter member of Newsom United Church, Glace Bay; a Life Elder of the congregation; and a former member of the Committee of Stewards and the Committee of Trustees. He is survived by his wife, the former Martha Howie; daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Jim McPhee), Eastern Passage; Jennett, Sydney; son, Brian (Betty), Sarnia, Ont.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Stan, Jim, Glace Bay; Fraser, Donkin. He was predeceased by brother, Willie; sister, Agnes Milley. There will be no visitation in the funeral home. Memorial service 2 p.m. today, January 16, in Newsom United Church, Rev. MacLEAN, Alexander Donald - 98, Middle River, Victoria Co., died March 24, 2000, in Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born in West Middle River, he was a son of the late Aulay and Johanna (MacLeod) MacLean. He was employed as a factory worker. He was a member of Middle River United Church. As a young man, he moved to the USA, where his first employment was the driver of an ice truck. After a short stint in the U.S. Army during the Second World War he was employed at W.H. Nichols Company of Waltham until his retirement, at which time he moved back to the family home in Middle River. He was a guest at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck for the past seven years. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by twin brother, John A. MacLean; sisters, Christine Morrison, Nora K.
