MacLEAN, Hector Ignatius - 72, 61 Champlain Ave., Sydney, died January 7, 1993, in Sydney City Hospital. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Neil J. and Ellen (Boutilier) MacLean. He was employed with Sydney Steel Corporation in the open hearth department for over 39 years. He was an avid skater, bowler, harness racing fan and fisherman. He was a member of Lingan Gulf and County Club, Sydney. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Burns; two sons, Alan, Kenneth, both of Westmount; daughter, Lynda (Mrs. Peter J. MacDonald), Sydney; two brothers, Alfred, Sydney; Edward, Kitchener, Ont.; five sisters, Kate (Mrs. Jack Fitzgerald), Kitchener; Mrs. Louise Higgins, Cambridge, Ont.; Helen (Mrs. Wilfred Richardson), Mrs. Mary Neville, Frances Lafford, all of Sydney; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Wallace, Leonard; two sisters, Christina, Annie Tobin. The body has been donated to Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation. A memorial service was held January 10 in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Alexander MacNeil officiated. McLEAN, (Naugler) Stella Maude - 91, Mosers River, died January 9, 1993, in Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage. Born in Mosers River, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Margaret (Woodin) Naugler. She spent most of her life in Montreal. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Robert Luckie), Montreal; son, Gerald, Ontario; two sisters, Lilly Sharpe, East Quoddy, Halifax County; Mary, Halifax; three brothers, Walter, Salem, Cumberland County; Allen, Windham, Me.; Calvin, Mosers River; 14 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford; three sisters, Olive, Delia, Doris; three brothers, Charles, Marshall, James. The body is in St. Andrew's United Church, Mosers River, where funeral will be 2 p.m. today, Rev. Russell Harding officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Mosers River. MacLEAN, (MacInnis) Johnena - 81, L'Ardoise, Richmond County, formerly of Inverness, died January 10, 1993, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Skye Mountain, Inverness County, she was a daughter of the late Dan C. and Annie (MacLellan) MacInnis. She is survived by three daughters, Dolena Eisener, Anna Cottreau, Cecilia Chisholm, all of Toronto; six sons, Jack, L'Ardoise; George, Tilbury, Ont.; Larry, Carson, Harold, Donald, all of Toronto; two brothers, James, L'Ardoise; Sandy, Sydney; 32 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Archie Dan; two sisters, Margaret, Annie Florence; four brothers, Alex, Dan George, Murdock Angus, Murdock Archie. MacLEAN, M. Arnold (C.F.P.) - 59, 25 Victoria Hill, Sydney River, died January 19, 1993, in Sydney City Hospital. Born in Englishtown, Victoria County, he was a son of Annie (Urquhart) MacLean, Englishtown, and the late Capt. Allan McLean. He was employed for the past 12 years with Investors Group. He was an adherent of St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, Englishtown. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Bray; brother, Allan T., Englishtown; two sisters, Sadie MacLean, Englishtown; Peggy Baker, Newburgh, Ont. He was predeceased by three brothers, John C., Dan Edward, Robert. The body is in Sydney Memorial Chapel, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m today. MacLEAN, Daniel James (Danny) - 52, 33 International St., Glace Bay, died January 21, 1993, in Sydney City Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of Emily (McLeod) MacLean, Glace Bay, and the late James MacLean. He was a coal miner until his retirement from Lingan Colliery in 1990. He was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay and an honorary member of Glace Bay Kinsmen Club. In his earlier years, he was involved in various softball leagues in Glace Bay. He is survived by his wife, the former Diane Cyr; two daughters, Michele (Mrs. Mark MacKnight), Dartmouth; Dana, Halifax; brother, Wilson, Sydney; five sisters, Joyce (Mrs. Lauchie MacLean), Charlotte (Mrs. Bill Green), Laura (Mrs. Pat MacLeod), all of Glace Bay; Eleanor (Mrs. Bob Leonard), Port Hawkesbury; Shirley (Mrs. Aubrey Sonovan), Sackville. He was predeceased by a brother, Allister; sister, Mary. There will be no visitation. A private committal service was held in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. MacLEAN, John Hugh - 74, Port Hastings, Inverness County, died February 2, 1993, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late William A. and Elvira (Fox) MacLean. He was a retired geologist with Falcolm Ridge International, Sudbury, Ont. He retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1966 and was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the RCAF as a spitfire pilot. He received a citation from the American Armed Forces for his work during the Cuban Crisis. He was a member of St. David's United Church, Port Hastings. He is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Anne Papineau, Toronto; son, Hugh Boyd, at home. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Edna Beaton; sister, Dorothy. Born in Ewell Epsom Surrey, England, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and May Beatrice Heasman. He was a member of Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton and an active choir member; belonged to Anona United Methodist Choir, Largo, Fla.; member of Abercrombie Golf and Country Club; American Contract Bridge League where he was a life master; former member of Blue Nose Curling Club, New Glasgow; retired purchasing agent for Scott Martimes Limited, where he was employed for 25 years and was on the board of Pictou County Residential Tenancies Board. He is survived by his wife, the former Jean West; daughter, Norma (Mrs. Scott Symonds), Bedford; son, David, Halifax; three grandchildren. The body is in H.W. MacLEAN, John M. - 76, Foxbrook Road, Westville, died February 20, 1993, in New Glasgow. Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late Phillip and Hughena (MacKay) MacLean. He was a resident of Lorne, Pictou County, prior to moving to Westville. He was a lumberman for several years and was employed with S.W. Weeks Construction Ltd. for 12 years until retirement. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville. Margaret MacLean dies at 100 MacLEAN, Margaret Estelle - 100, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of 310 Forbes St., New Glasgow, died February 22, 1993, in the villa. Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late James William and Mary (Grant) MacLean. She received her early education in Pictou County and teachers training at Normal College, Truro. After teaching in Pictou County and Halifax for a few years, she studied dietetics at Simonds College, Boston and worked in Bermuda. She attended teachers college at Columbia University, New York, where she earned a B.Sc and MSc. degree in bacteriology and continued at Columbia University as a research assistant. While there, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. In 1949, she moved to Belmont, Mass. to assist her brother and while there taught at Radcliff College, Cambridge, Mass. In 1960, she returned to Canada and resided in New Glasgow after retirement. She was a life member of Trinity United Church and UCW, New Glasgow. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews; 15 grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by three brothers, James Bertram, John Grant, Dr. A. Leslie; sister, Myrtle; nephew, William A. Dawson; niece, Charlotte MacLean. The body is in R.H. She lived in North Sydney and Smiths Cove for many years and was a longtime resident of Dartmouth. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Dartmouth; Northbrook Senior Citizen's and Order of the Eastern Star, St. Mary's Chapter, Digby. Born in Mosers River, Halifax County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Johanna (Naugler) Woodin. She was a resident of Hopewell all of her married life and has resided in Musquodoboit for the past five years. She was a life member of UCW. She is survived by a niece, Lynda (Mrs. Norman Murray), New Glasgow; eight grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; a great-great-grandchild. He was employed as janitor at Morrison Glace Bay High School, until retirement in 1984. He was a member and elder of Knox United Church, Glace Bay; member of Tyrian Youth Masonic Lodge and Aberdeen Lodge No. 68 IOOF, Glace Bay; Eastern Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and Ducks Unlimited. At the time of his death, he served on the board of directors of Mira Pines Camp of Sydney Presbytery of the United Church of Canada. He was former superintendent of Knox United Church Sunday school. He was once active with Bush Bowling League, St. Ann's Men's Bowling League and Knox Layman's League. He is survived by three sons, Grant, Allister, both of Glace Bay; Donald, Sydney River; five grandchildren; brother, Donald J., Willowdale, Ont.; sister, Jean (Mrs. Fraser MacDonald), Hamilton, Ont. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Chris MacLeod; brother, Roy. Born in England, she was a daughter of the late William and Maria Clements. Born in Bailey's Brook, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late Colin and Mamie (MacGillivray) MacInnis. She was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College, Truro; taught school for 25 years in Edgerton, Ardness, Crossroads and St. Joseph's; member of Retired Teacher's Union of Nova Scotia and was a member of St. Joseph's CWL. MacLEAN, James Pius - 79, 37 Atlantic St., Sydney, formerly of Mulgrave, Guysborough County, died April 7, 1993, in Sydney Community Health Centre. Born in Mulgrave, he was a son of the late James and Augusta (Gillis) MacLean. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Sydney, and a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was employed for 37 years with Canadian National Railways, retiring in 1973. He is survived by his wife, the former Gertrude MacDonald; son, Jim, Calgary; four sisters, Mary (Mrs. Stewart MacDonald), Dartmouth; Alice (Mrs. Joseph McKeough), Linwood; Helen (Mrs. Lawrence Jessome), Waverley; Pauline, Halifax; two brothers, Raymond, Lanark, Antigonish County; Patton, Saskatoon. MacLEAN, Sister Mary Anne (Sister Jean Carmel) - 92, Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha, Antigonish, died April 8, 1993, in Bethany Infirmary, Antigonish. Born in Irishvale, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Kennedy) MacLean. She taught school for nine years before entering the Sisters of St. Martha in 1933. She attended Provincial Normal College, teaching for 34 years in schools in Margaree Forks, Bras d'Or, Bay St. Lawrence and a year at Post Road School, Antigonish. She spent her last 16 years teaching in Eskasoni. In 1973, she received a diploma in Lauback Literacy Program, enabling her to teach adults in literacy programs. In 1987, she returned to Bethany and continued to assist teachers in religious education. She is survived by two sisters, Katherine A., Brookline, Mass.; Helen Carson, Ontario. She was predeceased by a sister, Clara Mary; five brothers, William R., James, Joseph, Michael, Neil. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday in Bethany Motherhouse. Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Monday in Bethany Chapel. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of MacIsaac Funeral Home, Antigonish.

Born in Weymouth, he was a son of the late Daniel H. and Harriett (Hankinson) MacLean. Raised in Hopewell, he was educated in Pictou County and received a BA degree from Dalhousie University. In 1937, he graduated from Pine Hill Divinity Hall, Halifax. Following his ordination, he served in the following pastorates: Stairs Memorial United, Dartmouth (1937-42); St. And r e w ' s U n i t e d , Springhill (1942-47); St. Andrew's United, Wolfville (1947-54); Knox United, Glace Bay (1954-60); Bethany United, Halifax (1960-67); Trinity United, New Glasgow (1967-73); Beacon United, Yarmouth (1973-79) and First United, Truro (1980-86), where he served as minister of visitation. Besides church work, he was actively involved in community activities and served on many boards. He is survived by his wife, the former Norma Lydiard; three sons, Leland, Lower Sackville; Rev. Glenn, Dartmouth; Brian, River John; eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Rev. Frank, Rev. Ward, Jack; a grandson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.L. Born at Christmas Island, he was a son of the late Archie and Mary (MacLean) MacLean. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and was a retired steel worker, having worked in the blast furnace department of Sydney Steel. MacLEAN, (Horne) Margaret Taylor - 72, Abercrombie, Pictou County, died September 18, 1993, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Scotland, she was a daughter of the late William and Jane (Taylor) Horne. She was a former employee of Major Vending at Michelin Tire; member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton and Abercrombie Community Centre. He was previously employed for many years with Tidewater Construction and retired from Michelin Tire in 1990. MacLEAN, William Alexander - 83, 29 Ross St., Truro, died October 9, 1993, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Riversdale, Colchester County, he was a son of the late Roderick and Alexandria (MacKay) MacLean. In his early years, he was a farmer and lumberman. He moved to Truro in 1946 and joined the Truro Police Department, retiring in 1974 as chief of police after 27 years of service. He was a longtime member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Truro. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Ethel Munro; son, William, Charlottetown; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. MacLEAN, John Angus (Jack) - 66, Iona, Victoria County, died November 26, 1993, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital. Born in Ottawa Brook, Victoria County, he was a son of the late Roderick Joseph and Margaret Catherine (MacDonald) MacLean. He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. He was a warrant officer in the Canadian Armed Forces for 22 years, serving in Korea, Cyprus, Egypt and other United Nations operations, retiring in 1975 and settling in Iona. He is survived by a son, John, Greenwood; brother, Lawrence, Port Hawkesbury; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Hebb, Port Hawkesbury; Mrs. Margaret MacNeil, Iona. MacLEAN, Charlotte A. (Honey) - 46, Port Hastings, Inverness County, died December 7, 1993, at home. Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of Bessie (MacKinnon) MacLean, Port Hastings and the late Charles A. MacLean. She was employed with Stora Forest Industries Ltd. for 25 years, most recently as a senior secretary-comptroller with the company. She was a member of St. David's United Church, Port Hastings, where she served as an elder and secretary of the official board; member of both the clan MacLean and MacKinnon associations and an avid golfer and skier.
