16th March 1999 Recently the land which includes the site of Killeglan castle has been put on the market. Ashbourne, being only 15 km from Dublin, has inevitably come under pressure by the need for land for housing development. While there is not as yet permission for such deveopment granted to these lands, it is of the utmost importance that a full and thorough archaeological survey of the castle site and the surrounding area be undertaken.
