Chapter 30

"Hey Nick, do you have Mom's w-" B.J. stopped in midsentence. "Uh, I take that as a no. I'm sorry." B.J. quickly shut his door in disbelief of what she just saw.

"NICK! Oh my gosh!" I shouted. I sat up and ran my fingers through my hair. "She's not going to tell is she?"

"I hope not. B.J.'s cool, so I don't think so."

"Good thing we weren't...you know," I said, letting him fill in the blank.

"Right, but we came awfully close. Maybe it's for the best." I nodded my head.

"Yeah, I can't believe we actually, almost, did, that," I said, smirking a bit.

Feeling suddenly embarrassed I pulled my shirt down and buttoned my pants. How could I have even let my body do that! It was like I had no control over myself. I can't be having sex now. I'm too young. I'm too STUPID.

I glanced over at Nick and saw him doing the same as I had, fixing his messy clothes. Feeling my face grow red I turned away. How could I possibly face him now? Now that our fight was over, I knew more avoiding would happen. I don't think I could take one more minute of that.

I looked outside and saw that the rain had halted, for the time being. I waltzed over to the window and stared out at the sky.

"Look," I whispered. "There's a rainbow. Our rainbow." I didn't think Nick had heard me, but he did, and he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my body. He ran his lips over my neck and I smiled. I guess avoiding each other was not part of the plan afterall.

"Right. Our rainbow." I turned my head and kissed him deeply. It felt so good to be back in Nick's arms. I had missed him too much during the past week.

"I have to go," I said.

"Yeah. And I need to go find B.J. and see what's up with that situation." Nick cleared his throat and I laughed.

I opened his widow, poncho in hand, and slowly climbed out. I turned to face Nick and kissed him one last time.

"Bye Nick."

"Bye." Our fingers slowly parted, not wanting to let go, and I was on my way home.

I snuck around the side of the house, trying to not make it visible that I had just left his room. It worked.

I had a smile painted on my face from ear to ear when I walked through my front door. The day had really turned upward, and it was all because of Nick.

I was walking up the steps to my room when I heard my father's voice ring out angrily.

"And where have you been?" I didn't need my voice to answer. My silence did it for me. "Just as I suspected. I'm really disappointed in you Amanda. Your brother used to pull stunts like this, but never you."

"I'm sorry D-" He held up his hand to silence me. Anger blared through his eyes, as well as pain. It was wonderful that Nick and I were back to normal, but my Father meant the world to me. If he lost my trust I couldn't gain it back for awhile. I knew exactly how this routine went.

"I used to think Nick was a good influence on you, but now I realize he's the exact opposite. You're grounded, and to what extent, I have no idea. I just know that it will be within the grounds of you never seeing that boy again," he said, still staring back at me. He turned his head and pushed past me to reach the bottom of the stairs.

"For goodness sake, Lord knows what you two were doing. Sex, sex, sex, sex. You're no different than your brother," I heard him mumble. Tears formed in my eyes and spilt over once I reached my room. Could this day be anymore confusing and pain filled?

"I see you're back," Jakob said seconds after I had entered my room.

"Yes it could," I said to myself, in response to my own question.

"What did you say?" I heard Jakob chomp down hard on a juicy red apple.

"Go away."

"You know I could've told Dad that you snuck out, but I kept it a secret. You know you could have gotten into major trouble." He took another bite and spoke with his mouthful. "I think you are in debted to me."

"Shows how smart you are." I rolled over so my words wouldn't be muffled any longer. "I just got compared to the sex freak of a brother I have. I got caught red handed, and I bet you did tell on me. Now GET OUT!"

"You got caught?" He chuckled. "You'll learn how to be the expert I am."

"GET OUT!" I picked up my pillow and threw it at him but he ducked.

"Awww, you want me to stay out that badly?" I glared at him and watched him shut the door on his way out.

Jakob couldn't keep his mouth shut, and he's lying about it to me. Just wait until we're alone and I'm through with crying...in fact, screw that. I think I'll do what I had in mind right now.
