That night I couldn't sleep at all. Different words and thoughts of my own flew through my mind and I couldn't seem to capture one that would give me all of the answers I needed to know.
The school year slowly but surely came to an end, and life continued to go on, regardless if I spoke to Nick more than once in a blue moon or not. And I utterly feel that last week changed me, it changed Nick and my relationship.
I was glancing through old photographs of my friends when my phone rang. To my surprise it was Nick.
"Hey!" I exclaimed. "Where are you?"
"We're in Canada, doing promos and such. What have you been up to? I've been missing you so much."
"I know, same here. I'm so bored, and it's so hot I can't even breathe. And to top it off, I can't seem to get out of this house."
"Well how would you like to get out for a week and come to Canada with me? It's a hectic schedule but I don't think it would hurt you."
"Pardon me?"
"I said-"
"I know what you said Nick. Are you serious? Please tell me you are."
"I am-"
"Oh my gosh, he's serious," I mumbled. "Really?"
"Yeah! So what do ya say?"
"Of course I'll go! I mean, that is if my father allows me." I heard Nick grunt and I laughed. "What was that for?"
"Well, I don't think your father takes a liking to me. Especially after we've been known to get into mischief when we're together."
"Yeah, you're right." I slumped in my desk chair and figured I'd return to sulking.
"It doesn't hurt to ask."
"I dunno..."
"Don't sound so disappointed!" he said. "Hey, there's always another time, heck, we're off to somewhere new every week. And if all goes well, our first album will be released in a month, then there will be a tour."
"I guess."
"So...are you gonna ask?"
"Yeah," I said, "there's no hurt in trying. Can you give me until tonight? I gotta swoon him." I listened to his laughter and laughed myself.
"Well whatever you gotta do, do it. I need you here."
"Oh sweetie," I said in a playful manner. "I need you too."
"Alright, I'll see you later, Mandy. Remember I love you and I'll call you tonight around eight ok?"
"I love you too. I'll wait for your call."
We said our goodbyes and I rested the phone on the hook. I bit my lip with a skeptical feeling overcoming me. My father would not trust me, or would he?
"Daddy?" I called out as I hopped gaily down the stairs. "Da-doo? Ah, there you are." I ran to him as he sat at his roll top desk doing research for work.
I gave him a peck on the cheek. "How are you?"
"Fine, you?"
"Just wonderous."
"What's with you? You're never this happy? Unless...you might as well tell me what you want."
"Why would you suggest that that's the only thing I could ask of you?" I batted my eyelashes. "I just wanted to express my love for y-"
"You've got ten seconds and then my answer is no."
"Well..."
"10...9...8..."
"Nick's in Canada and wants me to come visit him for a week. I promise I'll be really really really good and behave," I rushed on. "And if you don't let me go I'll never stop talking and I'll never leave the house and bug you until no end. So please Daddy please?"
"Of course." He pushed his reading glasses back up on his nose and looked back down at the papers neatly piled in front of him.
"Oh, if you really want me to stay."
"I said you can go Amanda." He looked back up at my eyes. "I trust you."
"Oh Daddy that's great!" I hugged him and rushed into the kitchen. "I'll cook us dinner and we can sort out alllllll the details! Okay? K? Okay..." I practically ran into the kitchen and began rustling around in the refrigerator.
"Hey Amanda." I turned around from the stove and to my surprise it was Jakob.
"Hey...Jakob," I said hesitating a bit but still responded. His greeting surprised me but I smiled and turned back around. This had to be one of the best days in a long time.
Nick called that night and I quickly told him that I was allowed to go. Plans were worked out and my plane would be leaving in two days. Two days, forty-eight hours, until I would be able to be with Nick. Insomnia hit and I couldn't sleep. I was way too excited. Two days...two days...two days. The words continued to play over and over again until I was sound asleep.
