Chapter 38

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nick's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~

I watched the sun blare overhead and I searched for my cell phone. Where was it when I really really needed it?

FINALLY! I rushed to turn it on and dial my Mom's number. Someone had to come and get me!

Pick up, pick up...c'mon!

"Hello?"

"Angel! Put mom on the phone."

"Nick? Why? What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong sweetie, I just need to speak with her for a second."

"Okay, hold on." I waited impatiently and finally heard my Mother's voice on the other end of the line.

"Nick? Baby is something wrong? Angel said you were hysterical."

"No, she just over reacted," I said lying. "Can you come and pick me up? I'm at the airport and I need a ride."

"The airport! You're home! And you didn't even tell me!"

"I'm sorry, it was just an unexpected trip I had to make. Can you make it?"

"Yeah sure, I'll be there in twenty minutes."

I hung up the phone and sat down on the curb. What could I do to kill twenty minutes? Absolutely nothing. I just sat and waited...

A half-hour passed and I finally saw my Mom pull up in our car.

"Can you drop me off at Amanda's?" I asked as soon as I jumped in the car.

"What, no hi Mom? I love you, I missed you?"

"Hi Mom, I love you and I missed you dearly. Please can you take me to Amanda's? This is really urgent."

"Sure. But what's the rush?"

"Nothing, I just have to tell her something vitally important."

"Fine..." Jane sighed and drove off.

I impatiently tapped my foot and tried to think of something else, but everything I looked at made me think of her. The sun reminded me of the way we had watched it set many times, the car reminded me of how we locked the keys in it, the clothes I was wearing still had her perfume scent on it, and even the very site of water made me think of the way we expressed the way we felt for each other for the very first time. I just couldn't get her off of my mind.

Amanda's POV

I stared at the slip of paper in my hand and read the number once more. I couldn't believe what I was doing, but if I ever wanted to know, now was the time to find out.

I let my fingers dial and I hoped in a way that no one would answer so I wouldn't have to go through with this.

"Hello?" the voice on the other line asked.

"May I speak with Mike please?"

"Yes, hold please." I awaited patiently for Mike and finally he came to the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hi, my name's Amanda. You may not remember me but you gave me your number at the beach. I was just calling because I happened to be interested."

"Of course I remember you. How can I forget a face or a voice like yours?" I blushed.

"So I wasn't doing anything tonight and my hopes are up for us to have a date. What do you say?"

"I'd be pleased. Where to?" I grinned and rushed to reply.

"How about we meet at the theater and see a movie?"

"That sounds wonderful." He paused at the sound of his Mother's voice ringing out. "I'm very sorry we didn't get a chance to talk but my Mother needs to use the phone. I'll see you tonight then?"

"Tonight." And with that, we hung up. I grinned, obviously proud of myself, and headed towards my closet to pick out what I should wear. I knew the date was sudden, but if I ever planned to get over Nick, I would have to prove it to myself that I could do it.

I was humming a tune when I heard the doorbell ring.

"Jakob!" I screamed. "Can you get that! I'm busy!" I waited for a response but got none. The doorbell sounded out again.

"What's wrong with you people? Can't even go to answer the door when a girl's got something to do," I mumbled to myself as I walked down the stairs.

The doorbell rang again and I became annoyed. Whoever the impatient fool was needed to tell me what he wanted then leave.

"Ye-" I began to ask, but when I saw the familiar blonde haired person standing before me I stopped.

"Amanda, we need to talk..."
