My Hunting Equipment

This is my what I mainly hunt with. It's a Browning A-bolt II Stainless Stalker with BOSS chambered to the .300 Winchester Magnum caliber. From what I've been told, this size of a caliber is a bit of an overkill here in Hawaii where game is medium in size. But I've also heard from seasoned hunters that the smaller caliber that supposedly is enough like the .223, can't really stop a game from running. Sure if you hit it in the vital spot consistently, it'll drop but chances like that are rare. This one hunter told me that it took six .30-06 bullets to drop a 300 plus pound pig with the final shot being point blank to the skull. .30-06 is a pretty hefty bullet to hunt with. Much more powerful than the .223 but a little less than the .300 win mag. With that in mind, why not hit it with a caliber that has down range energy and also accuracy at extreme ranges. Remember the SNIPER's motto," One shot-One kill."
I use this gun mainly for long distance shots. The scope is too powerful for any close ranges with the lowest power on the scope being 4.5X. I have my other gun for close range.

Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14 X 50mm Adjustable Objective Scope
I have chosen a Leupold scope because it is simply the best. My scope hasn't let me down. Sure I have missed shots but it is due to human imperfection not the scope. For the past three years, I have not adjusted my scope and it still perform wonders at 200 yards. I haven't had the chance to shoot at extreme long distance yet but I will soon and tell you how it performs.

What is BOSS?

Tasco Laserlite Laser Rangefinder 800
You may be wondering why in the world I'm carrying all these things when I go hunting? Well, some things are a necessity. This device tells me how far away a game is and whether to shoot or not. Range estimation is hard in the field especially with boulders and rolling hills to disrupts your depth perception. With an error of even 50 yards, it can be a difference between a hit or a miss. At extreme ranges, bullet drop is dramatic. With a range finder I can decide whether to shoot or stalk closer. Sometimes we have to pass a shot due to extreme ranges.

Buck Hunter(4th from the top)
You'll never know when you need it!!

Buck Zipper Knife
Ohhhh Yeeesssss! Can't do without it. Makes skinning and cleaning game fun.

Pro Ears Stalker
For the firearm, muzzle loader or bow hunter. Increases range and scope of hearing to detect game movement prior to sight. Lets you hear and be prepared for incoming game and also hear your own movements. You hear what the game hears. All while providing hearing protection. Features low profile 'Chop Side' cup for added control and comfort while shouldering long guns.

Why don't I wear ear plugs? Well, one of the equipment I use in hunting is my own ears. I need to hear game making noise too. Hear them before they hear me. And sometimes I don't have to to insert ear plugs in my ear. With this equipment, I put it on my head and turn it on. Tried shooting without it once and I have paid for it with a slightly damaged right ear drum. Those muzzle blast from those muzzle brakes are killers.
