"Maui Hiker"

So I bet you're wondering if I love the mountains. Well, ever since I was young, I looked forward to hiking excursions but never really got the chance to go. Now living my 29th year on this island, I go every chance I get.

This is one of the hikes in the Waiehu Valley. We parked on Malaihi Rd. and followed the ditchman's trail to the North Waiehu Stream. We started at 8am and reached the stream's end at about 1pm. Total time was about 8 1/2 hours of hiking. By the way, if there ever was a flood at that time, the valley floor is only about 15 feet across. The only way to get away from a flood is back down the stream or up the 3000 foot cliffs.

A month later, I was able to hike deep in the Iao Valley. We were able to reach almost the ridge that separates Iao from Olowalu. Time didn't permit us to complete the hike. We started at 8am and started to turn back at 1pm.
Pic#1- Trail ahead of us. It's only about a couple feet across and I was able to straddle it, leg on each side!
Pic#2- Isn't this view beautiful? It's about noon and I'm looking at the ridge that separates us from Olowalu.
Pic#3- Looking at Kahului Bay. The little peak on the left just over the bushes...that's Iao needle.
