Lovers Untrue
Adaptation from Poem by Jadadaye
Disclaimer: I got the idea from this story from a poem by Mercedes Lackey, also entitled "Lovers Untrue". I make no claims to the idea or the poem, I just wrote this on a whimsy and I hope she doesn't mind!
Alonzo and Victoria sat on the tire, cuddling.
"I shall love you until I die," Alonzo murmured in her ear.
"As will I," Victoria promised back.
"I swear by the Everlasting Cat that only death will part us."
Victoria giggled, blushing at his vow. "You mean the world to me,
Alonzo, only death COULD make me leave you!"
Later that night, Alonzo was walking along when he met up with Cassandra,
who was sitting by herself, staring up at the moon. Slipping over to her,
Alonzo sat down beside her.
"Cassi, would you take a walk with me? The night is young; it's so nice
out. It doesn't seem fair to let you spend it alone."
"I would love to, Alonzo!" Cassandra smiled, slipping her arm into his as
they rose.
Across the Junkyard, Victoria was sitting near Plato as they talked.
"Plato, do you think me fair?" Victoria asked, eyelashes veiling her
eyes. "I have long adored you. Come, let us walk a bit. The night is cold
and I would hate to be alone!"
Plato smiled at her and offered her his paw. "The honor would please me
greatly!"
The next morning, the sun rose to see Alonzo and Cassandra curled up in
the trunk of the old car. The two of them awoke just to see Victoria and
Plato walking into the proper, paw in paw. Alonzo and Victoria's eyes met and
they froze, the looks on their faces changing from happy to extremely guilty.
Cassandra and Plato just looked confused, their gazes moving from one to the
other.
Finally, Alonzo broke the standstill with a wry grin.
"Well, I guess we must be dead!"

Lovers Untrue (Tarma: "Swordsworn")
By Mercedes Lackey
"I shall love you till I die!"
Talasar and Dera cry.
He swears "On my life I vow
Only death could part us now!"
She says "You are life and breath
Nothing severs us but Death!"
Lightly taken, lightly spoke,
Easy vows are easy broke.
"Come and ride awhile with me,"
Talasar says to Varee,
"Look, the moon is rising high,
Countless stars bestrew the sky.
Come, or all the hours are flown
It's no night to lie alone."
This the one who lately cried
That he'd love until he died.
"Kevin, do you think me fair?"
Dera smiles, and shakes back her hair.
"I have long admired you -
Come, the night is young and new
And the wind is growing cold -
I would see if you are bold - "
Is this she who vowed till death
Talasar was life and breath?
Comes the dawn - beneath the tree
Talasar lies with Varee.
But look - who should now draw near -
Dera and her Kevin-dear
He sees her - she sees him -
Oh confusion! Silence grim!
Till he sighs and shakes his head - (pregnant pause)
"Well, I guess we must be dead!"
