Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering is the modification and alteration of the DNA sequence. It is already used heavily in agriculture and has evolved into other areas, including gene therapy, protein synthesis, and cloning.
The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project is an international research program designed to construct detailed genetic and physical maps of the human genome, and determine the entire sequence of human DNA. By 2005 all 100,000 human genes should be identified. By understanding the human genome, researchers will work towards "molecular medicine" based on early disease detection, preventive medicine, and drug development.
