Huston Rose, a long standing member of the Sand Ridge Community passed away Friday, September 21st, after 95 years of work and contribution to the community. He believed that a man's word was as good as a handshake, and honesty and hard work was a way of life. He was preceded in death by Ivy Trusty Rose, after 58 years of marriage. Well known as a farmer, he was also beloved by the school children whose bus he drove for 23 years. He enjoyed the last 3 years of his life in the rustic log cabin that his family lovingly crafted for him. Anyone that knew him knew that he was a hard worker and always took pride in finishing a job well done. Visiting with him was always a joy, due to his wonderful stories and memories of the "old days". He could always be counted on to tell you what year to the day that something happened, and how much it cost to buy his beloved candy bars. He also loved to tell the stories about, in his opinion, the best two horses ever, Billie, and his true favorite, Rex, the Tennessee walker. A true outdoorsman, his happiest time was spent outside working in the hayfields and in the garden, growing produce for family and friends. As late as spring of this year, he could be found outside mowing the yard and on his tractor breaking up the ground for a new garden. Although due to his health he was not a current member of any congregation, he had a strong faith in God and believed he would meet Ivy again in the ever after. He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas, his Mother and Father, Charles and Ella (Varnell) Rose, his two brothers, Phillip and Johnnie, and one sister Emma. He leaves behind two loving daughters, Karen Etzkorn of Fort Smith, AR and Annette Gack of Midway, AR. He also leaves behind his two son-in-laws, Frank Etzkorn and Ray Gack, who he always felt were more like good friends than in-laws. His 4 grandchildren, Angela Reynolds and Paul Etzkorn of Ft. Smith, AR, Marlana Chronister and her husband Scotty of Springdale, AR and Amberly Hogue of Russellville, will never forget all the good times they had playing on his farm. Also left behind are 2 great-grandchildren, and "Baby", his Chihuahua who helped him through the many nights and days after the passing of his wife. Pallbearers were: Paul Etzkorn, Jackie Turner, Robert Lovelace, Billy Strobel, Charles Mosley, Bob Gack. Honorary Pallbearers: Gordon Trusty, Raymond Howard. Services were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Dublin Freewill Baptist Church, Dublin, AR with burial in Ellsworth Cemetery in Midway, AR
