The third child and third son, John, was our great grandfather. John was born 3-4-1858 in Illinois and married Susan Katherine (Kate) Greb 1-27-1880 in Fort Smith in a double wedding. John's sister, Catherine, married Katherine's brother, Andrew, in the second half of the wedding. The Greb family was already in the Barling area before the Civil War. Kate's father, Michael Greb homesteaded land in Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1860. Kate's uncle, John Greb was killed by Bushwhackers during the Civil War. It is through Kate that we are related to the Maledon's. Kate's mother, Regina Maledon was the sister of George Maledon, who was employed as a night guard at the Hell on the Border jail. He also supervised executions from the mid-1880s until 1891 and then again in 1894 for Judge Parker.
