Lee Selph attended school in Ellsworth. After his father's death, he moved to Prairie View and worked as a teamster hauling frieght to and from the railroad at Spadra. Lee was a fiddler for the local parties where Kate met him and "chased" him until their marriage October 1893. Lee became the 12 mile mail carrier at Shoal Creek by wagon and a team of horses. After a back injury in 1902, Lee worked at mining and farming. Kate worked as a seamstress and took in boarders. By 1910, the Selph's resettled in Prairie View, and ran a store located across Francis Marion Gwaltney, besides continuing in work of mining and farming. The family attended the Prairie View Methodist Church. In 1913, by selling his best horse, Lee acquired a house until they moved to Little Rock, AR in 1933.
