Clarksville Democrat, dated 8 Feb 1912, "Kanin Keeton Newton Family Reunion, Hagarville, Johnson Co., AR, celebrate his 80th bithday. K. K. was born six miles west of Silex, Johnson Co., AR. In the 1850's, he joined the gold rush by traveling overland to California, returned three years later. He enlisted in the first company organized in Arkansas during the Civil War, CSA, Company C, First Arkansas Mounted Rifles. After the war, he farmed the land and was a schoolteacher. He had 12 kids; W. S., Russellville, candidate for county judge. John, Dover, AR, Ralph, Earlsboro, OK, Mrs. Eliza Adams, Dover, Mrs. Cannie Lee, Silex, and Mrs. Sarah Van Zandt, Shawnee, OK. The day was shared by another Stella Fay Newton, granddaughter of K. K. and child of W. S., whose birthday is the same date".
