His second wife was Mary Ann Killian. By winter 1877, he hitched his Clydesdales to the wagon & headed south on a wagon train trail to Arkansas, to arrive in early spring 1878. He stopped in Belleville, Yell Co., AR in ill health that resulted in his death 22 Feb 1878. Before his death, Mary Ann birthed a son on 5 Feb 1878 whom they named George Howard Rose. Another son, John William (b. 1875) then died 19 June 1878. Mary Ann Rose saw a lot of heartaches with the death of her loved ones.
