Okay, this is the REAL person behind the page. For simplicities sake, call me JL, it may not be my name, but sadly the world we live in is not a safe one. I am 21 years old and would be classified as normal I suppose. To make this easier to read, I have broken things up into sections. Hope this gives you a slight insight into who I really am.
Growing up
I was born and raised in Alaska, I have lived in Alaska all my life, and let's get a few things straight. I have been asked some REALLY dumb things in the past, and I am tired of coming up with creative answers and people believing them over the truth.
- I do not, nor ever have I lived in an Igloo, nor am I an Eskimo.
- I do not have a dog team, even if my one dog is strong enough.
- Alaska does have a summer; it is not snowy all year long, just 6 months.
- We are part of the United States, we are not our own separate country, and we do except American currency.
- We are up North, next to Canada, not down near Hawaii, nor down near Mexico.
- We are bigger then Texas ~ Sorry Texans, but we are ~
I did not really have a social life until I was in High School. I was very active in my school's theater program my Junior/Senior years of school; I spent as much time as possible up on the catwalks hanging lights and running tech. And I would like to point out, if all the world is a stage - remember it is the light crew that allows you to be seen! (That could be why our director dubbed a group of us Lighting Goddesses - we actually had an almost all girl tech crew!) In two years, I worked on six shows plus a bunch of small side productions (lighting for concerts, dances, and variety shows).
Oklahoma - Lighting: hanging (putting lights up), board (turning lights on and off at the right time); Set, Costuming
Senior One Acts 98 - Lighting: hanging, board; Set; Acting
The Miracle Worker - Lighting: hanging, Board Tech (ran the board); Set; Publicity (designed the posters)
Scrooge - Stage Manager; Lighting: hanging, board; Set; Publicity (helped design the posters)
Senior One Acts 99 - Directing; Set design (very limited); Lighting: hanging
The Comedy of Errors - Lighting: hanging; Sound Tech (ran sound ques); Set
In high school, I was also extremely active in my local Youth Court Program. I was a member throughout all of high school, one of the original members from when the program was founded, I was an extremely active member and also thoroughly enjoyed the program. I mostly held the position of Prosecution Attorney of that of Judge in the courtroom, and my senior year of high school, I was on the Youth Courts executive board as Secretary of Ethics. The Youth Court program I participated in, ran a bit differently then most that I know about - in our program the teens participating hold every position in the court; Prosecution representing the state, and Defense, representing the defendant, a panel of three Judges, and a Bailiff and a Clerk. We usually had a legal advisor who gives up their free time to be in court and help us out if the attorneys have questions, and we also had one of our probation officers in the court to help the family with the legal process. Everything we do to this day is real, it is not a game to be taken lightly - if the defendant does not complete their sentence, they go on to a higher court and have to not only
complete the sentence given there, but the one we gave them.
College.
College
I am going to college in Oregon, Southern Oregon University actually, where I am going into my third year of college. I loved the high school I went to, but I admit I could have done without all the small-minded students. I love the college that I am attending; there I am currently majoring in English with an emphasis in Literature, and minors in British Literature and maybe Political Science the way things are going. The school is in the little town of Ashland, and I have to say the best part if that there is a Shakespeare Festival in Ashland for nine months out of the year. In fact, between that and the college, that is the only point of the town. After college, I am planning to either attend law school and go on to practice Constitutional or Criminal law, or to attain a PH.D. in English and hopefully teach at either high school or college level. Not much to say about college at the moment - I love it, love my school, love my friends - it is great.
Interests
Let's see, what can I tell you about me? Well, I just love learning, simply because I can, I've done a lot of research on the Egyptian and Mayan cultures. One of my favorite hobbies and subjects of study is world religions. I have noticed that not many people are willing to even learn about other religious beyond their own, and are not even open to listening to other people. In the last few years I have been told, many times on a daily basis, that I am going to "Hell" because not only do I research other religions, but I do not believe exactly as others do. Oh well, C'est La Vie Mes Amies. I also LOVE reading!!! Right now, I have read all of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice as well as all of The Lives of the Mayfair Witches. I like Rice's works because first of all, she has done her research on whatever she has written about and knows weather or not her
information is historically accurate. I also like how the characters seem so real (at least to me) they have such fascinating personalities. I also love poetry; my favorite poets are Edgar Allen Poe and Lord Alfred Tennyson. I like different styles and subjects, but I love how Poe really addresses the subject of loss in his poetry.
I am very active in Girl Scouts, and I have been in the program since second grade. As of today, I have earned the Girl Scout silver award, which is the second highest award you can earn, and I help with different troops for the past seven years. I have completed my LIT, CIT, and PA training's ~Leader in Training, Counselor in Training, and Program Aide~ and I am an apprentice trainer in the Girl Scouts. In the summer of 1999, I was the main trainer for my local Day Camp's PA training. Translation for those of you who know very little of the program - I have done a lot as a Girl Scout and have a lot more responsibility then some adults in the program. Through Girl Scouts I have also done a lot of fun stuff, I've gone to a horse camp in Yosemite, California, as well camping all over Alaska. As part of a Wider Opportunities program, a program to allow girls to learn more about the world we live in. Within Alaska, I have gone to Denali and Kodiak with Japanese Girl Scouts, and on a worldwide scale I also went to Japan on a Girl Scout exchange program. This past summer, I accompanied a group of five Cadets and Senior Girl Scouts to Pennsylvania for a Wider Op as an Adult Chaperone. We had a great time (except for the heat).
My Dog
I have a little black dog, Magic. It took 11 years of begging to get a dog, but we finally got one, and he's a sweetie!!!!!! He's a lab and Australian cattle dog mix (my family has taken to calling him and Australian Lab), so he looks like a miniature lab with the build of a cattle dog, and he's got the darkest brown eyes, I love him!!! But when my father and brother take him hunting, he's not to sure if he is suppose to flush the birds or herd them. AND, shortly I am going to have a page just for my dog.
Well, that's a lot about me. Have fun looking at the rest of my web page.
Merry meet and merry part, and merry meet again.
