Poetry - His Eyes

His Eyes

I saw the Vietnam Wall today,
I saw a face in the wall,
I saw his eyes meet mine,
But then they fall.

I reached out to grasp his hand;
But I was reasching across time,
I never knew him,
But his soul met mine.

His eyes looked up again,
There was a question in his eyes,
"Why must I be forgotten
As time goes by?"

I answered him quietly;
"There is no need for fears,
I’ll remember you always."
Then I saw his tears.

I saw a smile on his face,
Then he said goodbye,
I had to walk away,
He couldn’t see me cry.

He hasn’t been forgotten,
Though we’re worlds apart,
I know his face, I know his name,
Forever in my heart.
