Poetry - Night

Night

At night I lay in my bed
Waiting for Sleep to come,
He comes quietly - just as he said -
When the day was done.

He holds me in his arms all night long -
As tenderly as a lover, as gently as a friend.
Every night he sings a silent song
To put my fears to an end.

A feel so safe, so warm in his arms;
Protected from the creatures of the night,
I lay safe in dreams, safe from harm,
‘Till the first ray of dawn’s light.

I have never known love like this before -
In the darkness of my soul, I’ve always been alone.
Now, inside there is something growing more and more,
A bright light that can be proudly shown.

As the sun greets the world, I awake
To find myself alone; he left with the night.
I am not afraid of what I face, I take
The love with me - always in sight.

I know it is all a dream,
But the love is real in my mind,
Call me crazy, but it seems
Not many have found a love of this kind.
