Poetry - Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time I loved you,
Once upon a time I cared about the future,
Once upon a time you were my whole world -
But that was once upon a time.

That was a soft springtime, so beautiful and new;
It turned to golden summer, warm and familiar -
But fall came, the world started to fade,
Now it is winter - all is cold, dead.

Where did summer go?

Day turned to night, I have lost my sun -
But it wasn't because you left me,
It was because you never truly cared.
I gave you all I had, you gave me nothing.

My life, my love - it was all yours,
And you took it, you broke it to pieces.
You left me lying shattered on the ground
And never once looked back.

That day I died, and was reborn.

I picked up what you left behind.
I put myself back together on my own.
I am as I was before you broke me -
But you left your mark.

Once upon a time I loved you,
Once upon a time I cared about the future,
Once upon a time you were my whole world -
But that was once upon a time -

And this is now.
