2 pkgs. dry yeast (2T) In large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in milk, sugar, eggs, cardamom and salt. Stir in 5 cups of flour and mix well. Then add the melted butter, stir until blended add 3-4 cups more flour mixing until it is a stiff dough. Turn out on a board and knead until smooth and satiny. Place in an ungreased bowl until doubled in bulk (1 hour) Punch down and allow to rise again for 45 minutes. Divide dough into 3 equal parts then divide each piece into three long logs. Braid dough and place on greased cookie sheet. Let rise 20 minutes. Brush top w beaten egg. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
2 cups scalded milk
1/4 cup warm water
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs beaten
2 Tbs. crushed cardamom
1 tsp salt
1 stick melted butter
8-10 cups flour
1 egg beaten with 1 Tb. water
For A Bread Machine: Half recipe and put in wet ingredients first, then dry and yeast last. Don’t use egg for the egg wash.....Follow your bread machine’s instructions on the White bread cycle.
