HondaATC's Xr500/350X Project.

I've always really wanted a torquey, powerhouse style threewheeler with Monstorus displacement. I wanted to have something Unique, something of my own that was completely different from the likes of any other threewheeler out there. I wanted something that could kick a quads arse...And By George I was gonna make it Happen. So, after alot of thinking, both in my mind, on Paper, and in the shop, I got it figured out. I was going to use an old 1979 Honda Xr500 engine, for the displacement. For the frame/chassis I was going to use the biggest I could find. That way I wouldn't have to do a whole lot of cutting to make it work. My selection for a chassis was the 1985 Honda 350X.

Plans for the Project

My plans for the Project are:

  • Buy and install a Wiseco piston kit STD bore, (Definte)
  • Buy and install a STD bore Sleeve, (Definete)
  • Buy and install a Honda Camshaft, (Definete)
  • Buy and install a Honda Cam Gear, (Definete)
  • Possible Head porting, (Tentive: Reason being Funding and Finding a decent local porter)
  • Dual Carb setup w/ custom machined intake, (Tentive: Lack of funds may indicate to go with one carb)
  • Hand fabricate a True Dual exhaust system, (Tentive: Lack of funds may indicate to go with conventional 2-in-1 setup)
  • Shaving the Flywheel, (Tentive: Trying to figure out how much I can take off, if I can take any)
  • Completely Sand Blast frame and Prep for painting, (Definete)
  • Buy and Paint frame with Dupont Imron gloss black, (Definete)
  • Completely Sand Blast Swingarm and Prep for painting, (Tentive: Money willing to buy the paint I will do this)
  • Buy and paint swingarm with Dupont Imron Aluminum Gray, (Tentive: See above)
  • Weld small dirtbike footpegs to front forks for Leg stretching on long rides, (Definete)
  • Buy a +2 Axle (Tentive: Still trying to decide yes or no)
  • Buy a +2 Swingarm (Very, Very, Tentive)

    Project Stages

Besides the obvious of peicing the thing together and cutting the frame, those are my main objectives for this project. Now below are the different "Stages" of this project.

Stage 1:Fitting the Motor and Polishing the cases

Stage 2:Cutting The Frame, Expanding it, and tacking it together.

Checkout the Stages I've completed and am working towards on my Xr500/350X trike. Then check back often to see all the latest new pictures and ideas I've got for this project.
