AJI COMPETITION ENTRY FORMS AND WAIVERS: Entry forms and waivers can be downloaded from AJI's new WEB PAGE: www.angelfire.com/ak3/aji . However, HARD COPY must have waiver Xeroxed on back and submitted to Joel Piper (address below). Sets of the Program Packets will be sent to each club. Check to be certain that all entry forms have been signed on the back by the judoka and/or their parents (when judoka is a minor). All waivers must be signed, failure to do so may result in elimination of the judoka from competition. Check to insure that the correct amount of entry fees of $25 (includes banquet) each competitor are included. Mail entry forms and fees TO ARRIVE NO LATER THAN Wednesday, March 8, 2000. If it arrives after March 8, a LATE ENTRY FEE of $40 (banquet not included) will be required. You will be notified if your entry form arrives late and the Late Entry Fee will be imposed. Competitors registering for more than one division will be charged $10 for each additional division. All competitors must be current members of either the United States Judo Association, the United States Judo Federation, the United States Judo, Inc./Alaska Judo Inc., or of a foreign judo organization with appropriate letters. Verification of current registration for contestants not members of the Alaska Judo Inc. (USJI) will be required. Verification can be made by attaching a copy of the current registration card, or a copy of the current USJA, USJF computer printout with your name, to the registration form. CONTEST RULES Current International Judo Federation Contest Rules as modified by the Alaska Judo, Inc. will be used for this tournament. A summary of the AJI rule modifications in effect are: 1. Students 5 years old and older on March 8, 2000 will be allowed to participate. Students under 5 years old on March 8, 2000 will not be accepted as contestants. 2. Co-Ed competition will be allowed in this tournament for age 10 and under only if there are not enough to fill a division. Exceptions for the co-ed competition will be with the approval of the Tournament Director, President of AJI, the Instructor, and Parents. 3. Junior competitors between the ages of 5 to 12 will not be allowed to use chokes, joint locks, double knee throws, or flying scissors. 4. Junior competitors between the ages of 13 to 16 will not be allowed to use joint locks, double knee throws, or flying scissors. 5. Junior competitors receiving permission to compete in a senior division will compete with the rules applicable to the senior division. 6. Senior competitors will not be allowed to use the flying scissors throw or waki gatame. 7. Except when a competitor is competing in more than one division, a ten minute rest period will be required between back to back matches. When competing in more than one division, back to back matches not in the same division will not require a rest period. 8. Scoring is by pure double elimination. Winner may have lost once, all other competitors will have lost two matches. SENIOR DIVISIONS: Will be in 5 categories: Extra Light, Light, Medium, Heavy and Open utilizing new national weight divisions grouped to AJI adopted divisions.
JUNIOR DIVISIONS: Light, Medium & Heavy categories and grouped utilizing the Junior National Standards not to exceed 10 pound spread unless not enough contestants are represented for a division. Constants will be matched first by sex, then by age group, then weight. Age groups to be used are: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16. A contestant that does not fit in the age/weight class will be dropped from competition or moved up to the next higher age group by the Tournament Director only with appropriate waiver forms signed. KATA: Kata competitors may be the same sex or co-ed. Nage-no-kata, Katame-no-kata and Ju-no-kata competitions only. There is no minimum age for kata competition. MASTERS: Competitors will be matched first by age, then competitors will be matched utilizing the National Male/Female weight categories of light, medium, heavy and open as listed above. Age groups will be 30-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, 51 and up. Competitors may be moved up one division if there are not enough to fill a three person division. COMPETITION INFORMATION: Matches will be three minutes (3) for Juniors, Senior, Masters Male and Female Divisions. CLUB COMPETITION: Overall club standing will be computed by adding the points received by its students in the individual competition. Scoring for club competition will be as follows: Ten (10) points for each First Place finish by one of its students. Five (5) points for each Second Place finish by one of its students. One (1) point for each Third Place finish by one of its students. Competitors must win one match to receive any points, i.e., in a division with only three contestants the contestant finishing in Third place will not receive any club points unless that person had won at least one match. TEAM COMPETITION: This competition will consist of five (5) junior boys in the Saito Cup Team Competition, and five (5) junior girls in the Fukuda Cup Team Competition. Scoring is identical for both team competitors. All team members must be registered with the same club. Each team entering the Team Competition will enter only one (1) contestant per age group. One female in each age group for the Fukuda Cup and one male in each age group for the Saito Cup. The contestants will be matched by age group only, regardless of weight or judo rank. Age groups used are identical for both team competitions and are 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-16. Winning teams will be selected first by the total number of wins. No Ties. In the case of a tie in the team competition, the winning team will be determined by the accumulation of the highest value of the award that determined the win. Value will be determined as follows: Ippon - 1 point Wazari - 0.5 point Yuko - 0.25 point Koka - .10 point Competitors must have submitted a completed waiver and release for either the Fukuda Cup or the Saito Cup before being allowed to enter the team competition. Final Registration for Team Competitors is at Weigh-In - Friday, March 10, 2000 at Awards Banquet, Palmer High School Cafeteria, 1170 W. Arctic Ave. Palmer, Alaska. GENERAL TOURNAMENT INFORMATION TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEE: $25 (If registration is received by March 8, 2000) (includes banquet) LATE ENTRY FEE: $40 (If registration is received March 9-10, 2000) (banquet not included) No late registrations will be accepted after Weigh-Ins close, Friday, March 10, 2000. There will be no Weigh-Ins at Palmer High School on the day of the Tournament. AWARDS: First, Second and Third place awards will be presented following each completed division on Tournament Day. See Schedule. SPECIAL AWARDS: will be presented at the Banquet (SEE BANQUET FORM). The Anchorage Dojo will also award its annual Judo Athlete Scholar Award at AJI's Awards Banquet, 6:30 pm, on Friday, March 10th. However, the Fukuda Cup and Saito Cup Team trophies will be presented at the Tournament on March 11th. HOUSING: Limited housing.
