Where in the World is Bob Jack?
Central America
(Jan-Feb 2014)
Introduction
It had been 1996 when I had first visited Central America for a tour of Mayan ruins in southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. I had Costa Rica high up on my list of countries to see so when I discovered return flights to Panama City for £530 I didn’t have any more excuses. I contacted my travel mate Trevor to see if he fancied expanding his Southern American trip from last March and he jumped on board immediately. I had four new countries in the area – Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and El Salvador. I had only dipped my toe in Honduras previously so wanted a bit more of that. Trevor said if we were going that far north, we might as well do Guatemala. It was a lot to pack in 18 days and the only way to do it was one way. I found flights between Guatemala City and Panama City on the day of our return flight home. I booked those and did some furious planning before the Ethiopian trip. With a sketchy framework of sights, this reconnaissance trip would be fast, furious and flexible. 6 countries in 18 days. What could possibly go wrong?
