During her years in Starfleet Academy studying for her position in Science, she achieved many things. She received a doctorate and majored in quantum cosmology. Other achievements include a commendation for bravery in 2354 and a commendation for excellent service in 2366.
In 2354, with the rank of Ensign Kathryn Janeway was assigned to the USS Icarus serving under Admiral Owen Paris. She was briefly taken prisoner by Cardassians during their short mission to one of the moons of Urtea II but her bravery and help from Lieutenant Justin Tighe aided their escape. Janeway later received commendation for bravery. Admiral Paris recommended her to think of changing divisions from the Science to the Command division. Her next ship she served as Science Officer on USS Al-Batani under Admiral Owen Paris.
After transferring to the command division she undertook her first mission as Captain in 2366. It was a six month venture into the Beta Quadrant. She received commendation for this venture. In 2367, Lieutenant Tuvok was named her tactical officer.
In 2370, Janeway is assigned to her new ship the USS Voyager. In 2371, Janeway recruited ex-Starfleet and convicted Maquis, Lieutenant Tom Paris to help search for Tuvok who was under cover on the ship lost in the Badlands.
While in search for the Maquis, the crew of Voyager was violently swept into the Delta Quadrant killing her First Officer, her helm and a few more others and lost contact with Starfleet on stardate 48315.6. Finding that the Maquis ship captained by Chakotay was also swept into the Delta Quadrant, Captain Janeway and the Maquis Commander merged as one crew on the USS Voyager making Chakotay Captain Janeway's First Officer. Now with her mission of getting the crew home finally over, she now leads the crew in new exploration of the Alpha Quadrant.
