Any cooking utensil placed upon an oven fire is blackened by soot. This is true whether the utensil is a pot or a kettle. The pot has, therefore, no right to ridicule the kettle for being black. Similarly, a person who has some defects has no right to condemn or criticize another for having the same defects. People often ignore this and lavish criticism on others who have the same drawbacks as the ones they have. A bald head making fun of another bald head, or a spendthrift blaming another person for having not saved anything, or an insincere workman blaming another insincere worker will only cut a ridiculous figure. A accuser having the same defects as the accused is a pot calling the kettle black.
