Page 3 of Part 4: My Life in Canada: January 2005 - December 2005!

July 2005 continued: Saturday July 16 was the day that we left Mara Lake again. Michael's parents would head back to Vancouver and Michael, myself, my mom, my brother and his family would head for the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We left at 7.30am and were headed for Revelstoke where we would visit Mount Revelstoke National Park, we would end in Golden that day. It started out quite cloudy in the morning and by the time we got to Revelstoke it was actually drizzling. We got to Mount Revelstoke National Park around 9.00am where they gave us a park pass which would last until 4.00pm the day after. Once we head up to the mountain and drove on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway it really started to rain, but what can you do. We were at the end of the Meadows in the Sky Parkway where we parked and decided to go for a walk to the top anyway. We had an umbrella with us and were dressed for the rain. Not too many views as it was way too cloudy and raining. There was a little lake on top that looked kind of neat in the rain and fog. We spend about an hour here and by the time we head back down to the car it started to clear up a little. There were some breaks in the clouds and we had a nice view over the valley. We stopped on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway a few times to enjoy the view and to see the beautiful wildflowers up close. That was a nice treat. By the time we were down in the valley again it was about noon and time to find a spot to eat lunch. We went to Denny's where we all had a nice lunch and then we took off to Glacier National Park where we wanted to stop at Rogers Pass before heading all the way to Golden where we would stay for 2 nights.

After our lunch at Denny's we left for Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park. At Rogers Pass we stopped at the Visitor's Info Centre to have a look around. Inside there were interesting displays and info on the area. There were many groundhogs squeeking outside, those are so cute! Once we were done visiting Rogers Pass we left again on the way to Golden. The drive to Golden was quite nice with beautiful mountain views and lots of trees. We went to the b&b where my brother was going to stay first to drop them off and then we’d be on the way to the one where we were going to stay. We were about 5 minutes from each other, so it would be easy to pick them up in the morning. My brother and his family stayed at the “Pine Cones Bed & Breakfast”…that was a beautiful place where they had a full suite to themselves with a private entrance, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, living room with TV/VCR/DVD & movies and a fully equipped kitchen, breakfast was brought to their door every morning. They also overlooked the backyard where they could enjoy sitting in the hot tub after a days of running around in the National Parks. The people that own the Bed & Breakfast were very kind and friendly people. It seemed like a wonderful place and I think my brother and family liked it very much!

Then we were off to our apartment in a beautiful log home, this place was called the Edelweiss Chalet. The funny part was that this lady (Graziella) from the Pine Cone b&b happened to know the lady that owned the log home that we were going to stay at…hehe, so she phoned her to let her know that we were on our way! How kind of her. After about 5 minutes driving up a fairly steep gravel road we found our place to stay! Wow, what a beautiful log home that was. We had the bottom suite/apartment to ourselves with a private entrance, full size living room, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and two lovely bedrooms. We had some views of the mountains from the living room window which was quite nice. The garden was huge. This lady knew that this was kind of our honeymoon and that we just got married. When we walked into the door of the suite there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers awaiting us on the table to congratulate us for our wedding! That was so nice of her! In the evening Michael and I picked up my brother and his wife to do a little bit of grocery shopping to make sure we had enough for the upcoming days. We agreed on taking a picnic along every day and this way we could have dinner at the place we stayed. After our shopping trip we all went to our own place so we could relax a bit for the evening and have an early night sleep as we had a full day of sight seeing ahead of us! We agreed on meeting up around 9.00 in the morning. We would pick them up and would be heading for Yoho National Park and Banff National Park.

We got up fairly early to get going and visit beautiful Yoho National Park and Banff National Park . The plan for today would be to visit the Natural Bridge, Emerald Lake and the Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park followed by Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. That would be enough for one day I think. We started out with a visit to the Natural Bridge in Yoho National Park…a great spot to see how powerful water can be! After spending some time here we went up to beautiful Emerald Lake. This place is so beautiful and so calming to visit. The water was so calm and the scenery just stunning. I could sit by the shoreline all day and take in this stunning view of green water and beautiful mountains! After Emerald Lake we visited the beautiful Takakkaw Falls, I think it’s the second highest waterfall in Canada or something like that. Here we decided to enjoy a picnic close to the falls as it was getting on for noon. That was so nice. The views of the fall and the power of the water is quite something. We got sprayed by the mist from the falls…haha, quite a nice cool down on such a hot day. The scenery around here is stunning of course and the road up to the falls is an adventure in itself! Our picnic was fun and really relaxing.

After that we were off to world famous Lake Louise. This place must be the most popular in the Canadian Rockies. There were so many people here, unbelievable. We took in the beautiful view over Lake Louise and Mount Victoria at the end of the lake with its Plain of Six Glaciers. What a view! We also explored the beautiful hotel “Chateau Lake Louise” which is quite a unique hotel to see. Beautifully decorated inside with so much prestige. We came across the Tea Room with several gift shops in the area. There was also a lady performing in classical clothing on her harp. Absolutely beautiful to see and the music was so relaxing. Her name is Deborah Nyack and she is known as the “Harp Angel”. We visited all the different gift shops and then we were off to Moraine Lake. Aaaah, Moraine Lake…one of my favorite spots in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It was later in the afternoon and quite busy already at Moraine Lake. We parked our car and walked to this beautiful lake. My mother was getting a little tired and decided to stay down by the lake shore and sat on a bench while the rest of us was going to go up onto the Rock Pile where you get even more stunning views over this beautiful Lake. The color of the water was absolutely stunning and the sunlight just hit it perfectly! It is so relaxing to sit on a bench here and stare at the amazing view. My oh my, are these Canadian Rockies ever beautiful! I have been to this spot a few times since I live in Canada and it’s just as beautiful as the first time. I could never get tired of these kind of views. Well, time to go back to our place to stay as we have a long drive ahead of us in the morning.
