PopeyePopeye came into my life rather suddenly. He was living in his cage in a laundry room for many years. When he came to live with me he was terrified of hands.. humans.. any foods.. any new toys or any thing that was not already in his cage . He had not been socialized or fed anything healthy. He was on a 95% sunflower seed diet along with some peanuts in the shell. He would bite the hand, any hand that fed him or did anything else for that matter. I can now carry him around on my arm and he can walk along my desk when I am busy chatting or working on the computer. He perches on a boing in the bedroom and we hang out while I watch TV in the evenings. Popeye can only be handled by me at this point. I am sure we will change that over the next few years. We have made allot of progress in the 10 months that I have had him. I look forward to the future with him and marvel as I think of how far we can go in our friendship. He is learning to trust me and I am learning to trust him. He lets me sleep as long as I want whenever I want. I love him with all my heart and soul. He is very special to me because when I brought him home I wasn't sure I would ever be able to handle him .It is not always easy to re-home a neglected bird. He now eats different foods and enjoys new toys. He loves to be scritched and he loves to hang out on my arm when he can. Some of Popeye's favorite words: Pretty Bird, What cha doin, Huh ? What cha wearin, Huhhh, Come innn, Come here, Who is it ? Here kitty kitty kitty. Undesirable behavior: He is not as friendly as I would like him to be due to his unfortunate circumstances in his previous home. |
